A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

are all break and clutch leavers the same or does each bike have its own style of leaver?:D

I think a lot are interchangeable but there are a few different styles. I know my buddy tried swapping some to another bike from his kawi and it didnt work but ones from a suzuki did. So not sure if maybe all suzuki ones are the same or not.

Neither. Many clutch and brake levers are shared between models, many are different. Did you have a specific model(s) in mind? Such a generic question is impossible to answer correctly unless you specify exactly what you are attempting to do.

i was looking at getting some of these

i don't know if the link worked so if not just copy and paste in the HTML bar

these are what im looking at getting but i dont want to buy something thats not going to fit!
they dont sell for old bikes so i need to know what bikes leavers are interchangeable with the gs1000

I put a set of these on my '78 GS1000E, and a set on my '79 GS1000E. Being you have a '78 it would be easy, as the '79 has that clutch safey switch you have the modify the lever to fit.

Hard to be sure from those pictures, but the 2005 CBR (mentioned in the ad) has a cable clutch (not a hydraulic clutch), so you can probably adapt them to your bike. I swapped the clutch lever on my bike when I changed the cable. You'll need to make sure that the new lever fits into the mount though.

Steve, I suspect he wants the adjustability afforded by the levers he selected.
Cinders, there are several things to consider. Whether or not it is narrow enough to fit in the perch is one. Another one is what size barrel fits in the slot. And then there is the lever ratio, or the travel of the cable versus the travel of the lever.
Due to the large number of levers available just for gixxers suggests that these vary year to year and model to model. They go back to the 80s for gixxers, but no where in their store do they mention any GS models.

thats exactally what im looking at doing koolaid kid i was wondering if anyone know about these adjustable aforadable levers that would fit on the bike or do i need to get new mounts from a newer bike to make it work?

That's what I thought. The easiest way to get them to mount is to get the perches (and throttle assembly) from a newer bike that they make the levers for. Then you would have to figure out the wiring, but it would probably be easier than trying to mod the levers themselves.

i wanted to try to stay as close to classic as possible but based on the situation i dont think im gonna be able to do that here
if anyone know what would fit please let me know

Find a lever from one of the bikes listed in the ad and see if it fits your LH control assembly, cable knob, etc. You could borrow one from a friend for about 10 minutes to test fit it.

If that works, you can probably go forward with picking up one of these.

thats a great idea ill take pictures of diffrent leavers from my friends and let yall know how it turns out
