LED Indicators - Opinions, Experiences?

I'm looking to replace the horrid old rectangular bulb type indicators on my 450 with some new LED type indicators.

There's a place I can get some E marked ones here but I'm trying to decide which style to go for, so wondering if any of these look like ones others have tried before?

My main concern is that I don't want to reduce visibility of the indicators

I'll be replacing my indicator relay with a proper LED type relay so they flash correctly.

The ones I'm looking at are:

http://www.thirdgear.com.au/products/Adanac-Black-ABS-LED-Indicators.html

http://www.thirdgear.com.au/products/BB9-Black-Cast-Metal-LED-Motorcycle-Indicators.html

http://www.thirdgear.com.au/products/Lambton-Black-ABS-LED-Indicators.html

Any thoughts or opinions? I'm leaning towards the last type as it has the extra little bit of side visibility also...

Hey, I just replaced my round ones with those "horrid old rectangular bulb type indicators" on the front of my bike! So beauty must be in the eye of the beholder. LED's look good in calculators.

You raise a good point there, it's definitely in the eye of the beholder :)

Any other thoughts on these?

why not try replacing the bulbs with high intensity led's in stead of the whole light? unless you wanted to change your "look"

this place seems to have ok prices for led's ->http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-...tion=DispPage&Page2Disp=/tail-brake-turn.html

Partly it's a LED conversion, partly it's not using the big square ones, so just swapping the bulbs won't do what I'm looking for unfortunately.

Ideally I'd love some medium length stalked round ones to suit the scrambler look I'm trying for, but I haven't seen anything even remotely like that.

Big problem I've found with US ones are most aren't marked suitably for legal requirements here, and I need to get the bike inspected for a roadworthy, so they'll probably fail it.

Also, those ones have red lens'? Is that normal? Have to be amber over here...

Oh yeah, the legality issue. No worries with that here. I don't know then. Most of them say "For show or off road use only"

Yeah I gotta find something that's E marked at the very least as they need to meet or exceed the Australian Design Rules requirements that were in place at the time of manufacture of the bike...

Not to sound unethical, but how feasible would it be to forge the proof of it being legal? It is as simple as a sticker on the part? I know lots of guys around here wear the stupid salad bowl helmets with a fake DOT sticker on it.

I'm with CLZ here Pete, I have no problem pulling one over on the authorities, blood sucking SOB's, why not just run it through the roadworthy with the stock units and chuck them off as soon as you get home afterwards.
Otherwise, to keep with the scrambler look, retro fit a set of Yamaha IT indicators with LED's, after your piece of work with the ignitor it should be about 2 beers work for you, although not round they are nice and slim an not overbearing at all and rubber stalk mounted, they were OEM on the IT and XT series scramblers.

Great stuff, thanks for the feedback guys!

I keep forgetting that going to ebay.com.au doesn't show me everything like going to ebay.com does.... there's a huge difference in results

I may end up sticking with one of the original ones but I'll look a lot further now...

Did you also have a look at BulletWalla's store? They have many Royal Enfield parts still being manufactured by them. Someone over here is importing complete brand new Royal Enfields from India. Sort of time warp thing!

I'm all for this! Did/do it all the time to get through emissions with my all my friend's quasi-street legal Mustangs. I've long sold my Mustang, but I kept the factory h-pipe with cats so we could all use it for emissions testing. Nice of Ford to keep the Mustang's config more or less the same from 82 to 93 or so. Since I'm the only one who kept his stock exhaust, I get to charge 'em. :twistedevil: Usually just booze, or some other libation. ;)

Thanks again for all the feedback guys, but looks like I don't need to go down this path after all :)

I redid my mock up today and I think I was remembering my old indicators all wrong as they should work just nicely.

I'll need to relocate the rear ones, but you get the idea and they'll certainly work out just fine, although I may end up getting some LED bulb replacements and LED relay as the left front bulb is blown currently.
