    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

LED's replace small lamps in dial cluster

I have replaced the lamps in the gear indicator and the dial cluster with LED's. This is version 1, as there may be some changes as this is actually tested on the road. I envisage a small dimmer knob for nighttime driving.
Any comments and suggestions are welcome.

Any trick to getting inside that model gauge? I have the same one and it's a mess.
 
I sell LED replacement 1898 style bulbs and 194 style bulbs at my work which would make this extremely easy.

wish i would have known that groundshock....

i just replaced all my bulbs... with oem ones.

man they suck to get in and out too
 
He beat me to it. I lost the 5 indicator bulb and have been too busy to fix it. My 650G is similar to others but different from his. I'll do this on mine and take pictures as well. THey last for 75 years so this a pretty permanent repair. I might even do the neutral light, oil light and turn signals.

well maybe in the future i will swap them out and then forget about them forever

what do they run? i've been thinking of replacing all my bulbs with LED's with my stimulus check.

I have just done that as well.
Remove the guages, place them face down on a soft cloth and use a flatbladed screwdriver to bend up the edge of the metal ring that holds the glass. Work it around for abour 3/4's of the way. Use a "Duckbill" pliers to straighten out the kinks and then gently pry the ring off. Remove the 2 screws at the back and take the works out.
Carefully swirl the cable entry part in some benzine to get the old oil and dirt out. Do not get it on the rest of the gauge. Once that part is clean you can wash out the rest with clean benzine. Use the opportunity to clean the inside of the glass very well. I also touched up the faded red parts with a small artists brush.
To reassemble, just lightly tap the ring edge back over and use a wooden dowel to finish it off

Yes the second part was more for those of us that do not have access to these bulbs. Obviously they would be much easier to use and are more omnidirectional. I would suggest that anyone rather use these and let us know which work best w.r.t. daylight and nighttime riding. Let us know what they cost as well as the GS1000GT neads 9 in total, 2 amber, 1 blue, 1 green, 1 red, and 4 white
