A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Someone, I think it was here on GSR, posted where to get LED's at a reasonable price, anyone remeber where, hopefully in Canada so the d**n duty doesn't kick in.
I was looking at add on LED brake lights, the price they want for them is unreal so if I can find the LED's at a reasonable price I'm going to see if I can come up with something decent looking.....Mike

If you want LED, you must pay that high price to get one that is worth anything....

...but adding any kind of additional brake lamps has to help. I paid about $7 (my memory is fading) for a 12LED red lamp at Princess Auto. I know they have a store in Dartmouth. They ship cheaply ($4 plus .40 a pound). Web is www.princessauto.com

Depending on what you want to use it for you might find decent LED units on Ebay. For example, I picked up some GM LED third brake lights made for the tops of S-10 Blazers and minivans for less than $30 each, and they're VERY bright. My goal was to use one on top of my trunk as an additional brake light.

I'm guessing that if I wanted to get fancy I could buy (or make) an electronic trigger that would run the light at two different brightness levels so that I could use it as an extra tail light in addition to using it as a brake light...

Good Luck,

I'm going to try Princess Auto as they're only 10 minutes away, never even thought of them.
As far as E-Bay goes, I looked there, seemed as if most of the ones O looked at the shipping was more than the LED, makes sense I guess considering the size. I'd still prefer to look at them first.
I was thinking of looking for some sort of auto 3rd brake light but any I've looked at were a sealed unit. You couldn't modify them as the complete thing was potted and mounted on one pcb.....Mike

Consider bringing your motorcycle battery with you. You'll be able to check the relative brightness of the various units. Here is a link to a thread with photos wherein I described putting a Princess Auto LED panel on my wife's Kawasaki as an extra brake lamp: http://www.riderforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11240&highlight=led+brake+lamp

Hi guys,

I've thought about replacing the innards of my tail light with LED's to do away with the whole bulb thing.

This article came out in 2003 and outlines a few ways to do it, and hopefully the PCB's are still available.

http://www.siliconchip.com.au/cms/A_30305/article.html

Just a quick update - I didn't realise this site was subscription only! I have the original magazine around somewhere, but I'll try to find the PCB's or something online as well.

I bought something like this: http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/DB608/ from autozone, but I didnt like it. Fit right in my 1157 base just fine, but the tight cluster of LEDs made my tail light look like a cigarette from 20' back, unless you were looking right into it. I promptly replaced it with the ol' incandescent, because I think it makes the whole lens glow better.

Perhaps I should have gotten this one? http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/aut1157m/
