Well almost got killed turning left today, discovered the left turn signal doesnt work, the front stays on (solid yellow) when I turn left but the rear does nothing, the bulb is good, what could be wrong----

I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.
Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Returning Visitors
If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.
If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Did you swap them around to make certain it's good? (You probably did but that sure sounds like the problem....) You might also check for corrosion in the socket and on the bulb, itself.

I second the burned out bulb theory. I just spent several hours this weekend doing continuity tests all over my bike to troubleshoot a similar issue only to finally look again at the bulbs and determine they were burnt out. The reason I didn't identify them as burnt out to begin with is that I only looked at the curled portion of the filament (which was intact) and didn't scrutinize the straight portion, which is where the break was.

It is easy to buzz a light (with a ohm meter) or just put 12V to it and see if it is still intact.
The front comes on and doesn't flash because the flasher needs a certain amount of current (mini9mum required from two bulbs) to cause the flash to "flash". Since the rear light is off, that would prevent the front from flashing so it stays on and there is likely nothing wrong with it.
Do one of the definitive tests above and if the bulb is good (if not replace), then look for the ground path for that bulb that is not lit. As a etst run a seperate groudn wire to the non-lit light and see if that does it. I'm assuming you have 12V to the other leg when the blinker is on.
Should come to a solution pretty quickly.

Like said ,BE SURE the bulb is good. Check inside socket, sometimes water gets in there & rusts inside of socket. Under the seat there will be a plug that connects the signal to the harness, possibly one for ground also, depending on model.

Check your connections. I had a similar problem, found it to be the connector from the signal stem to the harness...they get a lot of water under there if you get caught in the rain...

If the bulb checks good it's probably a ground problem. Found this on my "T" model. Make sure the contacts are good on the socket, check the connectors at the signal, then check the connector that you'll probably find under the seat near the battery.
