A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I aquired a 1981 GS 850 a few weeks ago. There is currently a plastic air box with no markings on it with no filter on the bike. the previous owner thought the air box was for a GS 1000. He had also purchased two more air boxes but one was a ripoff from e-bay that was gutted. The other is very nice but when I tried to put it on the boots were impossible to get onto the carbs. After some measuring the rip off airbox with what looks like original stamped susuki gs 750, 850 and 1000 measures 11.5" to the outside of the two outside holes. The plastic box is 11.75" and the nicer box measures 11.25. Can someone help me with what the right box should measure? Even more confusing is the boots that he collected, straight, offset right, offset left. Can someone help me??? The # stamped on the motor is GS 850 139753

Pics of what you have would help us identify them. The plastic airbox is almost certainly not the right one. Here's the fiche for a 1981 GS850G air cleaner:

The correct boots for this airbox probably look like this:

Well, to be technically correct, they should look like the one on the left. The one on the right is what they look like when they're 30+ years old. If yours are not pliable and squishy, you need new ones. There are two "Left" (stamped with an L) boots and two "Right" (stamped with an R). I don't know what the difference is, but there must be one.

Offer up a pic of carbs, so we know you have the right ones for an 81 model - sometimes PO's get ambitious and change stuff.

Still trying to work out a picture technical dificulties. I think they need to be PDFs to be small enough

Hi Mr. Jamesp,

The GS850G airbox boots do not look like velocity stacks.
