Thanks Basscliff, I have cleaned the ground wire, both ends. But still have a few other connections to clean tomorrow. I did run a wire from the negative inlet to the RR to the battery terminal, just as a test. With no change, but not sure if I had a good connection. I made up a wire to do it properly from the mounting bolt on the RR but was worried I wouldn't be able to get the bolt back in once I got it out. I got a socket in there and could have gotten it out by remounting the socket each time but there was no way I could get a finger in there to hold on the socket so the ratchet would work. Thus my fear of getting it back on. Any tips for getting at it, or should I put my fingers on a diet ? Also is the RR ruled out as my high charging problem if i don't have a reading of below .2 V ?
Well now I've gone and done it. While rechecking every time I cleaned a connection, I accidently put the positive lead of the meter to the negative lead from the RR. 17.85 V on reading. Now when done properly I get readings all over the place from 4 v to .32 V. No change in readings on anything else. Still the same readings when checking the battery at various revs, and still the same .12 V on the positive side. So pretty sure if I didn`t need a new RR before I do now. Going to follow the advice from another thread and use one either recommended by Matchless or a Compufire. How do you remove the connectors from the plastic case that goes plugs into the RR. Also as I can not get my fingers into the old RR I was thinking of just leaving it there and clamping the new one to the frame somewhere and of course running the new RR ground directly to the neg. lead on the battery. Don`t know how you guys have done it but would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
