A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hi guys,
I have a friend with a GS 1000 that has asked me (who doesn't know)...... "could you please help with a bit of info on the starter clutch for my gs 1000 i have repaired replaced parts and have bolted all up but it seems to always work the center bolt loose making it slip and spin freely how would i keep the center bolt tight?"

Is it as simple as applying locktite???

I have given him the link to this forum (hopefully he will join)

Thanks in advance :)

Hi,

The information you need is in THIS THREAD.

Search is wonderful.

Yes, Red Loctite. Maybe even something stronger if it's giving you too much trouble.

Thank you for your indulgence,

BassCliff

Thanks Basscliff,

I did do a search, but hadn't thought to use 'locktite' in the search parameter.

Cheers

Aha! the ol'e bolt spinning after it's tightened up!!!!!!!!

Here's how you cure the problem................... and you don't need no red/blue/green/yellow/indigo etc etc sealant/glue.....

Replace the springs that push on the dowels behind the starter clutch, they have lost their tension, so the main crank just spins and loosens the bolt.

Nuff said.

If you are refering to the large nut holding the rotor in place, then this is a common problem. The rotor and the starter clutch then spins on the crankshaft. The tapered surface then also shows some signs of scarring.
A solution is to use a strong Locktite on the tapered part of the crankshaft, after cleaning the mating surfaces in the rotor and on the crankshaft properly and also smoothing down any raised burs.
The nut must also be torqued down properly to the manuals specified torque and not just hand tightened.:)

Thank you Matchless and Feelergauge Phill.

I have passed on your wise words.:D
