A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So my theory about coils seems right. it looks like I lost the 1/4 coil cause it took 20 minutes to start and 1/4 had no spark. I checked for 12vdc switched and found that so I ohm checked the coils iaw the service manual, and got infinite resistance. good thing I had a pair of the dyna "mean green" dc1-1 coils I bought the for my 81 kz1000m1. it developed a miss on 2/4 with the dyna coils so I put the factory coils back in it and got a miss on on 2/3 with the factory coils and never got around to putting the dynas back on which is why I'm using them on the gs650. Nowi just have to get some plug wire terminals and make new wires since some of the wires I made for the kz1000m1 are too short.

Sorry for your lost, I can only hope the replacement will console you.

i shall give it a proper burial . well hopefully with two operational coils it won't be such a chore to get it up to 50-60mph

Did you try measuring the coils secondary resistance sans plug caps?

Yes. I checked both primary and secondary windings and got nothing

so in addition to the coil, i think the signal generator is also going out. i got the coils installed and took her for a test run. the performance didn't change. so when i got home i pulled the plugs for 1 & 4 and checked for spark. still no spark. so i ohm checked the signal generator (and this is for the gs650g model, which is what i have), and got 421 ohms metering both ways. is it time to find a dyna s kit, or will a used signal generator work as well?
