    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

'78 GS1000 27000 miles was running great always starts within a few seconds. About 103 F outside today, 25 miles @ about 65mph, pulled into Gas station for gas, went to start bike and nothing. No headlight, no dash lights, no horn, nothing electrical. All the fuses looked good, wires to battery were tight.
I hope it's something simple I'm over looking, any ideas????
 
not unusual to have a sudden battery death on a hot day.
check it under a load.
i just filled up a new one for a neigbors wing.
exept he turned the key ang got lights till he tried to start.blew open a rotten interconnect bar in the bat.
of course look for stupid stuff.
like a bad ground or a fuse that looks ok but has had the solder in the ends melted from a high resistance fuse clip producing heat.
time to exercise that v.o.m
or get a cheap one at harbor frieght to get started.
 
If absolutely nothing happened at re-start, it should be the main fuse. Pop a new one in and test. Fuses can be bad at the ends and you can't see the break. Check all connections next.
 
Like I said all the fuses looked good. I went and bought a new battery because voltage was a little low on mine, not the problem, bought a multimeter and started tracing wires, not the problem, replaced perfectly good looking fuse and :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: yeah my baby runs again. Thanks for the quick replys, I should have replaced the main fuse right off but like I said it looked fine. Not to expensive a life lesson.
 
I figured it was the main fuse. As others have found out, the fuse doesn't always blow where you can see it. And old glass/tube fuses don't always blow just from the start up amperage, sometimes the soldered ends inside crack and weakens so it's just ready to fail. Always carry spares for the main and all circuits.
At least you have a new battery and a new tester to play with. :)
