A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

low voltage on idle

Update dudes (and any dudettes)

13.3v after a few minutes, is up from 13.0 previously.

Yep stator was checked for continuity to ground. Its all good there.

Charged the battery over night, removed one of headlights, starting voltage was 13.3v. Started the bike up, warmed for a minute then held it at 5k rpm. Voltage across battery is up to 14.3v. (finally).

I checked the manual, and it does state only do a charging voltage check across the battery should only be done a fully charged battery. And the results I"m getting are now as expected.

I"m no longer worried about charging issues, I'll be replacing one of the headlights with an LED. Should be too harsh for it.

Thanks for all the help dudes, certainly has been an education.

Pretty much done with electrics for a while now, on to solving the weird knocking noise I get on start up from the cylinder head.

Ollie.

If you take out a headlamp bulb and the battery voltage goes up a volt then you have a stator issue.you may think you don't care because you are going to run LEDs but it is telling me the stator was not changed and the stator is on the slippery slope to failure.

I like fancy electrical terms! But yeah, he's holding out on us!

the stator is new, has very low resistance wire to wire and zero continuity to ground. Fitted without any crimps or wire traps.

It came from a company called electrosport.

here it is:

http://www.electrosport.com/stator-suzuki-gs450-gs500e-gs550-gs650-gs750e-2.html

I can put the headlight back in and check the charging voltage (I've not tried). Will do once the valve shims arrive.

Holding out?

A properly operating charging system can handle a standard 55W (5 amp) headlamp load with margin. If the voltage goes up by removing a 55W load then something is up.

The goop covered ES stators! potential crime scene !
So,zero continuity to ground- ohm test ? not enough. Did you check for voltage to ground during the 60 to 80 volts AC test (there should be none) ?

I may have failed to mention it has two 55w headlights right now. I've only removed one of them.

Can check continuity to ground when running (when the head is back together)
