    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Finally got carbs rebuilt and found a interesting problem I wish I had taken pics before he went to local dealer to get new main jet. I've never seen a main jet in two pieces,I found it laying in float bowl with the threads broken off. When we went and picked bike up the PO told us it smoked out of the number 1 cyl so I figured it was something more serious and when we got it running it ran really rich, so thats when I pulled carbs to rebuild them. Never thought I would find that. Owell it's fixed now, we're still waiting on o-rings and intake runners to come in, went and picked up a motion pro manometer today so he'll be all set up. I wish he would decide if he wants a 4 into 1 exhaust or not before I put it all back together and sync it.
 
I'd be checking everything on the bike carefully

Anyone who could snap a brass jet in half is capable of all sorts of destruction

You should check the valve cover bolts to see how many are stripped out
 
Short story.Cleaned/rebuild carbs on 1978 CB750F.About !00 mi or so..mid-range acceleration,very poor/stunble bad.remove carbs,look and find big brass jet lying in bottom fuel bowl.I was so worried about snapping brass ,i erred on w/too light on snug torque.Didn't have torque wrench back then either. Q.Smoke was what colour,mechanic say?
 
Come to think about it he didnt say what color smoke it was, it wasn't oil but sure was rich. I still need to go through valves so everything will be checked thoroughly plus I think the threads for the center pipes are stripping out since they don't seem to want to tighten up, man I hate aluminum. And he can deal with stock exhaust for now. He needs to get used to riding something bigger than a scooter before we start jetting and doing mods to it.
 
Lately been riding gravel/sand back roads(I live on one).Riding 250cc KLR to keep skills sharp and to slow things down a bit,good to hear son have scooter experience and such.Your desire for good/proper approach in venture/project very wise.
 
He thinks I'm going to getting it back together so he can ride it before winter but he'll get over it I might just pull engine out and go through it just so he can have a safe and memorable ride. He can't take safety course till next spring anyway since seasons almost over and all classes are full so I'll just make his life miserable and happy at same time. Good things come to those who wait, and he'll be much happier with being able to ride all next year and proud of what he has instead of calling me to rescue him.
 
Stripped or snapped exhaust bolts are a common problem

Careful drilling and maybe a helicoil will solve that problem

I'm sure you'll find more stripped bolts as you go along
