A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hi
My bike is a 1980 GS850g. When I got it five years ago it had the original 4-2 system fitted. The silencers had rotted so I fitted a british made "Motad" 4-1 with stainless downpipes. It's ok but I think it spoils the look of the bike and it makes a bit of a "tinny" noise on tickover.
My objective is to go back to a 4-2 but the only option available seems to be the "Marving" system. They only make the silencers and the idea seems to be that you use the downpipes from the original system, this is ok for the inner two pipes but the outers have to be cut from the factory silencers. Has anyone tried this and with what results? My pipes are ok to use condition wise, any comments would be much appreciated

A lot of people here have done exactly that on their stock systems, but used discarded Harley Davidson mufflers instead of aftermarket slip-ons. H-D owners in the USA frequently have the dealerships remove the OEM exhaust mufflers and install straight open pipes, which are terribly loud. The dealerships oftentimes toss the old mufflers or sell them on ebay cheap.

They look ok on our older style bikes, and sound pretty decent too. A little louder and throatier than stock, but not obnoxiously loud.

Great looking system. Did you have those welded on? hard to tell in the picture. Nice looking bike altogether, some nice mods. I don't get the airbox though, I'm guessing it's a 'G' airbox instead of the one that's supposed to be there.

They are clamped onto downpipes. And the air box is because I could not find a chain drive unit. It works fine and gives me room for a storage box where filter would be.

Tired looking online for the product with no luck, looks like they've stopped making that model, what a shame.

Po of my bike took what looks like steel wool to the mufflers....bad idea! Mine are sound, but ugly. Wish there was an aftermarket source for decent 4-2...not turn outs though{hate turn outs}.
