DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Matching paint color

Hi All,

I have been lurking around this forum since I got my GS850 last Fall. This is my second post, the first is in the GS Stories category. I believe I have resolved most of my mechanical issues and have added a Plexifairing 3; now it's time for cosmetic details. My gas tank has several minor nicks in the paint and one spot about the size of a dime where the paint is missing. At this point I don't want to repaint the tank and prefer to just touch it up.

The bike is a 1979 GS850 (G) and if I had to guess at the color I would call it "midnight blue". I am sorry to say that the local Suzy dealer is someone I have vowed never to deal with again, and will not set foot on their property. I also make it my business to tell every local biker I encounter about this dealer's attitude and how they treat customers. I really don't know how they can keep their franchise. But I digress. Here's my question; has anyone found a line of touch-up paint with colors that closely match the older Suzuki colors.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

JR,

I don't know about commercially available touch up paint, but I doubt if you'll find it. If you want an exact match (or as close as modern physics will allow), take the tank or the bike to a PPG automotive paint jobber. Ask them to use the "Prophet" device to get a paint match for you. This is an electronic device that they will place on several places on the tank and then link it to their computer. The results basically tell them exactly how to mix your paint color. This method is extremely accurate. I have used this when painting fenders on older cars and no one who I asked could tell the difference. I am restoring a '78 GS750 that is also dark blue - I don't know if it is the same blue as your '79, but this is exactly the method I used to get the original color.
