    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

minimizing the electrics

hey guys im trying to get an idea of what others have done to clean up the electrics?!?!?! I want to get rid of the consul between the speedo and tach. I dont need warning lights or shift lights. I want to wire a toggle or something for the lights in the head light cavity... but i dont know what to do about the turn signals. if the law would let me i would run no indicators but i cant... i will be using small ones. but the main goal is to shave the bars a bit and hide/ditch wires. what are the nessasary things i have to keep? I know the coil the regulator rectifier and starter and lights. Please post pics if you can of any ideas or things you have seen. Thanks
 
Im thinking of mounting a starter switch under the seat. i need brake lights but i have made up rear sets and not sure if i will still use the same rear master cylinder. indicators and head light i need. but still unsure of where to place them. im going to hide as much of the rest of the electrics in the seat cone with battery in there also. I want it very basic I dont need lights in gauges I will be running a speedo and possible a tach too. my bike will be pretty much a skeleton if i get it right. i want to race it on the weekends but ride it to work too.

Even the stock configuration doesn't have a ton of wires up front. They tend to nest in the headlight bucket.

To minimize the front end, lose the gauge cluster and replace it with smaller gauges or a combo unit. That will shed some wiring, since the stock cluster has more bulbs and wires than other units that provide the same functions.

Why would you add a "toggle for the headlight"? Will you turn it off? Even if your bike allows the headlight to power off (my 1978 does), I'd think you'd want to tie that into the ignition to make it always on and lose that wiring.
