A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi guys, im new here but read some useful info in the last few weeks which helped me fixed a few issues with my 81 gs 750

But now i got a new problem. This bike is new to me so im not sure what kind of issues it had before. It starts great and runs great until it warms up...about 5 minutes into the ride it starts to misfire and lose power. At first i thought it was an ignition coil/coils but i wanted to ask for your opinions before i waste a few hundred bucks and still have the same problem.

Coils breaking down when hot are not unknown, so it might be. In a way, it's good that it's doing it every time, as you can quickly remove the tank and check the coil DC resistance when it starts doing it. Of course, such faults have a way of vanishing when they cool down a bit, so you'd have to be quick.
Same applies to the pickup coils, but at least you can check the more accessible end of the harness that goes to them.
The most obvious, and simplest things to check are the plugs, plug caps, and leads - cheaper to replace too, and should be done as a service item in any case.

I checked the resistance when cold and one coil was about 30 and the other 50-60..i dont know what that means but im guessing its not good. Also the spark plugs 1 and 4 are black and the 2 and 3 are brown

Well i got the new coils installed and still having the issue..once again it misfires only when hot...now im thinking this could be a carb problem
