    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Missing Bolt Exhaust

I'm missing this bolt on the far rightside.
I can see where it has been hacked off level with the header.

In bikecliffs notes he says exhaust leaks can be very troublesome and to replace the gaskets.

My question, The bike has been like this since I bought it a year ago. I have never noticed any exhaust coming from this area. And the bike has plenty of performance. Should I attempt to fix this, or let it go?
 
If she isn't leaking, I think I'd let her ride for now. You can always remove it later when either it begins to leak or some other maintenance concern requires removing the exhaust system. Just my 2 cents. Best Regards, Ray
 
I'd leave it. I doubt the bolt head's been hacked off. I've seen bolt heads pop off due to expansion and the wrong type of bolt installed. When it starts leaking it's time to address the issue.
 
I'd fix it, although there is little risk with leaving it be for the time being. The head pipe and muffler are one piece so it's not like the head pipe is going to move out of position very far.
 
if it aint broke (leaking) why fix it? wait till it does, if it ever does then do it. may turn out to be a whole lot of work with no real gain

Because if it starts leaking the engine will start sucking air causing lean running, along with the heat that goes with it. No big deal for a local trip, but if you are a long way from home, running your bike lean like that for an extended period of time would not be good.
 
The chances of a leak are pretty slim I would say - the other bolt plus the tension on the exhaust should hold it in place no problem. If you're useful with with a drill / welder it is at least an easy bolt to get at and out. If on the other hand you consider it a major job and it's your only bike I would leave it until the winter to fix.
