More Chuck tanks

The info on the color you gave me is just what I (paint store) needed, so we're good. I'll send all that back with the parts, no problem.

The one thing i forgot was new screws for the tank badges so you could put them on for taking portfolio pics.

I'll just put em on with dbl. stick tape..or maybe..epoxy........:D

I'll order some up. The last set I bought cost a whopping 4 bux.

Getting the Skunk sprayed this afternoon. In between coats, as we speak. Lookin' good....

Heck just repaint the ones from the Burgundy tank..they were new just this spring. I was thinking of the skunk tank. repaint some old ones for that too if you got them laying around. Noones gonna be noticing screws when they look at those tanks anyways!!

Here's mine preparing for th ecross country trip!

I am waiting on the decal kit to show mup for my Cooley right now.. then save the cash and mine will be heading to Washington also.

Got the base colors and then the stripes done on the Skunk. Spent all afternoon applying the stripes. Always nerve-wracking 'cause you only get one shot at it, but they turned out pretty nice..

Skunk tank. Reproduction Decals have updated their system to include the badge mount holes which made lining them up easier then past decals.

They were off on the right side, though. Almost had a heart attack when I saw this. They were off a whole inch. Smaller holes are the correct position, but thankfully the emblems still cover them up..whew!!

I'll get the stripes on the maroon C tank tomorrow.

So, what are the steps from this point to finish the skunk: sand, buff and clear?

Or am I missing some steps?

Gheez...I sure hope they do cover the holes. Did you hold a badge up to see? Maybe the picture needs to be emailed to them ASAP so they can correct this. Thats pretty far off for what you pay for these kits!!! They are gonna look spectacular as usual.

I did a copy and paste and sent them an email with the picture...sure hope the C decals arent this way too.

Like the Skunk, I need to sand the clear smooth on the maroon tank before decal application, then all the parts will get 3 more clear sessions, followed by multi-stage polishing steps to finish it up. A lot of work, but it's worth it.

The C tank decals are totally different for some reason. The orange center stripe and the gold pin stripes are all one unit, so it'll be a challenge to get em on straight. Not to worry on the skunk, though, Chuck. I put the badges on and the holes are covered just fine. Reproduction Decals needs to adjust their template, though, for sure.

Larry..I was contemplating using a guy local based on some word of mouth suggestions. My buddy Tony used him on his 65 Mustang. I stopped in to get some orings for a set of carbs I am doing for him and saw the car. What a TOTAL abortion!! Huge sanding mark that show thru, tiger stripping on the passes and heavy overlapping lines, many spots not even filled. I mean I could have done that and better with rattle cans and I dont even pride myself on that level of ability. We were talking and Tony is just LIVID. I said, "well, I guess my intuition to stay with my guy was right." I will GLADLY GLADLY send all my work to you and give out your number to anyone that asks about my bikes painter. I am sure there are others that can do as good as you, but like I told you once on the phone..when I find the one i like and trust then I am locked in. I know these bikes arent all that and a bag of chips to some but they are to me and I really like them to be as nice as possible. Thanks again and we WILL be talking agin soon enough. Still got the Cooley to go and maybe the 76 750 Hondamatic.

Very kind of you to say, Chuck. I've seen, many, many times the job you describe your friend got on his Mustang. I've spent most of my life learning the system I use, and even though it's very time consuming, it's extremely gratifying when it's all done. To have happy (and repeat) customers makes it all worth while. The support that I've gotten from the folks on this site in particular is amazing. I'm very grateful.

I only speak of my experience and satisfaction..your pics speak for themselves. I just give voice to them..LOL

Hi Charles:
This issue has come up with Suzuki. For some reason they sometimes make their tanks with the badges with asymetrical positioning. The badge should cover the holes. The holes are a mirror image of the other side of the tank if you measure.
If there is an image once the badge in on let me know.

Ellen

Just recieved this in reply

Chuck is short for Charles?

Interesting bit of info there.... True or false? I'm talking about the tank.

Charles was my dads name too..so to prevent the confusion when someone was on the phone or whatever I was Chuck and dad was Charlie.

Here's the stripes on the maroon C tank, Chuck. All the parts need to sit for a day or so and gas out before the clear coats. Monday will be a good time to start on that. I can see the finish line now...;)
