Hi everyone. I've spent the better part of a very cold and long winter working on my 78 GS1000. I'm getting to the point where I can try to start it. The carbs I have are the normal, stock ones and against the better judgment of many on this forum I will be using pods and 4-1 exhaust. I realise that I will ultimately have to dial in the jets and I am not asking the standard "what size jets should I use" question. What I am wondering is, for the purposes of seeing if the damned thing will even run, and fo benchmarking purposes, can I expect it to even start with the stock jets? I realize it will be very lean and I won't be taking it out to romp on it. I'm just curious if the bike would even start or would it just be way too ldean. I have to clean the carbs anyways, But I want to sort out timing and all that other stuff and get that all dialed in before I mess with the jets. Will the bike run with no airfilters? Common sense tells me yes. Just curious to know if this engine is so different from anything else that I've seen that it will need to be fully wrapped up before I can even hit the starter button.
