I performed another valve clearance check yesterday and took a few more pictures to add as an addendum. Pictures to cover questions like...


What do I turn to move the cam lobes?

Where do I measure?

How do I get the shim out?

I bet Ed's shims look polished, not that he polished them, they just naturally stay that way.

Hi Mr. robertbarr,

Believe it or not, I use a 4 year old Fuji Finepix A210 3 megapixel digital camera. It cost $189 when I bought it. It's not much, but it's easy to use and takes great pictures (for its resolution class). I don't use a tripod. It's just me and my two hands. Sometimes I have to be a contortionist to set up the shots.

Hi Mr. Headphase,

The camera may add a little weight, but it takes off dirt.

If you spray some Simple Green on your hands, rub it in and let it dry, it makes clean-up a lot easier. One of these days I'll pick up a box of nitrile gloves. My fingernails are dirty for days after I do a valve check.

I'll bet Mr. Nessism's bike never needs valve checks. Something about "immaculate combustion"?
