DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I was about to order a Carbtune and was wondering if anyone has used the ColorTune product with any success. I see you can bundle them together for a better price. I could see some value in this both on my '83 GS1100ES and my Porsche 914 but I havent ever used one. Based on the reputation of the CarbTune I figured it was worth looking into.

Thanks!

Colortune works well with VM carbs; not so much with the CV carbs your GS has. Don't know if/how it would work with the 914, tho.

Carbtune is great and it's critical to vacuum sync your carbs.

Colortune is not critical, in fact some may consider it sort of a gimmick. I'd pass.

Thanks for the info! I felt as though the ColorTune may be a bit of a gimmick as well.

With regard to the CarbTune, I see a few other options for products associated with the CarbTune like idle screwdrivers etc. Has anyone ever purchased any of the other products there?

Thanks!

Motion Pro makes a carb sync screwdriver/nutdriver thingie which works well. If Carbtune offers similar I'd get one.

Carbtune used to sell that Motion Pro sync tool, but their web site says it's no longer available. (You can get them elsewhere though. I got one on Amazon.)

Carbtune does still sell right angle screwdrivers for reaching the pilot fuel screws however. But I don't have one, so I can't say how useful they are.

I have the Morgan mercury version from the 80's and an 80's Colortune which iirc was a Gunson product back then.
The carb balancer works well for me. Colortune is another story altogether. I've tried to use it on all sorts, VM and CV and all I can say is that it probably requires a greater level of experience and or skill than I have to extract any benefit from it.

Last337..I can tell you its no gimmick. It works superbly on VM carbs and any other vehicle that has INDEPENDENT air mixture capabilities. I tried my Colortune on CV carbs and basically what you can do is turn the mixture screws in till the flame goes away. BUT..aftr the flame goes away you can then open the screws just till the flame stays stead and add about 1/4 more turn to find a good starting point on tuning the carbs...so it isnt "totally" useless as far as CV carbs go.

My experience using the Colortune with CV carbs has been good. When using it on my 1981 GS650GL I can get the full range of colors, from yellow to bunsen blue to white-blue. I've found it to be a very helpful tool. I find that adjusting the mixture screw until the yellow just turns completely blue works best for me. The majority of folks on here have experienced different results when using it with CV carbs, but I like mine.

Cheers!
K
