A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I have a 1977 gs550 and I have come across a motor and transmission from a 1978 gs1000. My question is would the motor fit my frame and if so will the motor mounts match up? Thanks in advance!

Patrick

Search it.. 750's will take the 1000 motor as long as it chain to chain. 16V 750 take the 16V 1100 and 1150 motor. It's called a 7/11 swap.

The 550's frame is too small to take anything but the 550. You can put the cylinder's jugs and cylinder head of a 650 on your 550 block if your looking for displacement bump for your 550.

I'm guessing if you threw enough money at the project your could squeze on a 1000 but I'm about 90% sure the 1000 won't fit or work in a direct swap. Someone chime in please.

If the 1000 engine your looking at is a Shafty it won't work with anything that is chain drive.

It's chain driven as well but I did a little more looking into it and from what i understand it wont fit in there

I hope it is ok to add to this thread (not trying to steal the thread) but since it applies to the title... how about putting a 16V 1100 onto a GS1000?

Is there a direct swap or not spreadsheet?

Should be a straight swap. I know the 1000 motor is a candidate for a 7/11 swap although It's only a 1000. Might need mounts. Search it up for more info. Is it really worth it though? I guess if your 1000 engine is crapping out it might be worth it.

Probably not worth it, but my buddies 82 1100 seems pretty fast and tourqy

I am not going to do it to this 78 skunk, I am making it all original.... but i may find a project someday....and I like the way the gs1000 sits better than the 1100.... but like to go fast too.
