A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

i finally got down to business today and did a mapped trip of 50 miles after i filled the tank and then i refilled the tank after the 50 miles. the math is saying just under 35mpg for my little gs550. is that about right or is that low. i am not lugging the engine the rpms is usually floating around 5-6 unless i am getting on her, then i am shifting right around the 9.5-10, i know the more throttle you use the more gas you are using. this is just a curious question. its not bad mileage compared to my minivan (that i hate driving).

My precious get upwards of 50 MPG Imperial
what that is in US can be found in an online calculator.

You must drive fast?

I don't know what mine is getting right now, but now that I have the stock exhaust on, carbs synched, and replaced all the o-rings (carb boot and inside the carbs) it is running a lot better and getting WAY better mileage. I'll have to calculate that out at some point.

the only thing i have to do at this point is get new o rings and resync, while i am at it i will check the fuel level

It should definitely be getting better mpg then that, I get 45mpg even if I'm flogging it and cruising at 75+ on the freeway. If I try I'll get 50+ (slow acceleration, 65 on the freeway) and this is with my bike not running right.

Are you filling to the exact same level every time you fill up. With the bike on the sidestand, fill to the bottom of the spout in the tank neck. Putting in small amounts of fuel, if you fill a couple of tenths higher and show 1.5 gallons instead of 1.3, it can make a significant difference in how you mpg works out.

The best way is to check it over about 10 fill-ups or so. Just record the starting mileage (odometer reading). Don't worry about the gallons on the starting fill-up, but record the next 10 or so fill-ups. On the tenth fill-up, note the odometer reading, subtract the starting reading. Total the gallons used, divide that into the miles travelled.

One nice thing about doing it that way is that only the first and last fill-ups need to be filled to the same exact amount. Any, or all, of the others can be as partial a fill as you want.

.

Do o-rings rreally affect that much. And one day i rant the tank from full to empty and got 160 which equaled to around 40 mpg.
