    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Mtc or wiseco ?

Once the Hybrid is stripped for cosmetics and spare engine pulled from the 1100E I'll have some time on my hands so was going to pull the air cooled motor down.

plan is -

welded/overhauled crank ( recommendations appreciated)
Beefed up and refurbed clutch

and probably plus 2mm piston kit running about 10.5:1.

last time I used oversized Pistons was 2 ring yoshi on a gs1000 ( showing my age) and I'm leaning to MTC but would appreciate any comments/experience
 
If you want the best ask RapidRay on some custom pistons that are supposed to be way better than off the shelf. Maybe 20% more expensive but if you got the cash.
 
I just lead the the group buy for the oversized 650 Pistons from wiseco. They were really easy to get along with and the had 40 piston done in 3.5 weeks. They all turned out really nice.
 
Regarding the welded crank. It's been several years since i had on done so I don't know who is still in the game.

Falicon is good but may be a tad spendy. Contact Schnitz Racing https://store.schnitzracing.com/ and see if they have a recommendation. I bought a lot of stuff from Schnitz, good outfit.

There are dozens of threads about cranks. Pearson and Gardener are the names that come up time and again.
 
Check your messages. I messaged you awhile ago. Call me at the # I gave you if you would like some HONEST answers, info on how build a DURABLE engine & save some money in the process. 140 rear wheel horsepower, with ride across country reliability is easy!

John Pearson at Pearson Racing in Ohio (west of Dayton, OH) is THE MAN for crankshaft work.

I was weighing options for a race engine and was urged to stick to a 1085cc kit for the GS1000, as it will rev up faster than the bigger kits and will be better in the long haul for durability. You can run GS1100 cylinders (1074cc?) & barely have to overbore them, lots of material left to aid in cooling and block rigidity
 
As I remember the MTC uses a little larger piston to cylinder clearance then Wiseco. MTC .005 compared to .003 with the Wiseco's. When measuring them they also had a little more taper. I can say I have installed some MTC pistons and noticed that they rattled or you may say slapped in the bores a little more during warm up before they quieted down. Therefore I thought they may cause the piston skirts and cylinder walls to wear out quicker. I stand to be corrected but that may be a deciding factor on which ones to use for durability.
 
Here is how I look at it, MTC is a flathead Ford, Wiseco is an LS Chevy, JE is a new ZO6 & CP is F1. Take my evaluation for whatever it is worth to you. MTC is just heavy & ancient technology. CP Pistons are in every winning class in drag racing. From Top Fuel on down. They make great power & MTCs don't make the same power. This is just a fact.

MTC actually set up very tight. Only pistons I have seen that sets up at .005" would maybe a Venolia.
 
Sorry about the wrong numbers I reread the instructions since then and it should have been .0005-.001 for the MTC's . Thanks for the correction.
 
I've been running a set of old clearance-sale NOS 72mm 920cc GS750 pistons from MTC Engineering for 3 seasons now, & running them very hard at that. No problems, no burning oil, no piston slap. I do take Ray's well versed opinion pretty seriously, however. If I can afford to, I may go CP on the next 6 pistons to make a 944cc GS750 & 489cc or maybe same as above for 502cc in a GS425 with GS850 sleeves.
