    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Going to do the quick charge test. But have never used multi before. So when you stop laughing, could someone tell me where to place the switch and which 2 holes to plug into ?

Plug the red wire into the V/Ohm/mA and the bkac wire into the block hole.

Put your switch on the 20v one
 
Certainly. I'm guessing that by 'quick charge test' you mean checking for voltage across the battery.

Red meter lead - V/Ω/mA
Black meter lead - COM

Dial to the '20' range in the section with the 'V' wih straight and dotted lines above it (DC Volts).

Hi,

The "V" range in the upper left quadrant is for DC voltage. The "V" in the upper right quadrant is for AC voltage. The "A" range is for amperage (current). When you test hi amperage values (there won't be any on a motorcycle) use the 10A hole at the bottom for the red test lead. The "COM" hole is for the black lead (usually ground).

The "Ω" symbol is for ohms (resistance).

Those numbers you see are the ranges, the maximum value for that setting. In other words, if you have the selector on the 2K ohms range and it reads "OL" (or some other display that let's you know your out of range), then move the selector to the next higher range and re-measure.

Didn't you get a manual with that device?

It did come with a little sheet of paper, which was as clear as mud. However your explanations are very clear. Thankyou. I will post my results on my battery thread.

Note that virtually ALL of the testing you are likely to do on your bike will have you plugging the black lead into the center COM hole and the red lead into the right V/Ω/mA hole.

Yes that is what I am doing, as I said I was switching threads to my "Looking for someone who knows batteries" thread.
