A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Not sure what make it is came with bike. 1979 gs1000l. I removed the screw and tried to remove the baffles but the are either extremely stuck or not designed to be removed. But then, what's the point of the screw?

They are just extremely stuck. At least mine came out. Pain in the but though.

Suggestions? I tried heating it up, clamping the exhaust (not chrome) with vise grips and tapping outward. Should I try soaking with PB or Sea Foam, then heating? I'd like to use a slide dent puller but can't figure out how to attach it.

Any chance of a pic? Most baffles in 4 into 1's are screwed at the front end and rivetted at the rear, the rivets are sometimes even ground off flat.
BTW you are aware that the baffle comes out to the rear?
Dink

I'll try and take a pic tommorrow. There is no rivet unless they ground it flat, and chromed over it. The screw is under the megaphone OUTLET about 1-1.5" from the end. and YES Dink I'm aware that the 3" outlet probably won't fit through the 4 1" tubes at the other end;-)

That screw may only hold the end cap on. youmay need to repack from the end.
Dink

What do you mean repack? If the end cap comes off does that mean the baffles might be removable. Any suggestion for trying to remove whatever might be removable?

I used to have a Kerker megaphone on my 1100 and it DID get stuck even after removing the screw under the meg. I would pull the the meg off and use a large wooden dowel inserted in the collector end and tap out the baffle with a mallet. This was how I did it on mine. You all takes your chances with yours.
