    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Here are some pics of the cafe seat I made and how I fastened it to the bike.

How it started composite lumber and blow foam to make the shape and then fiberglass and bondo. Its still not 100% but I am getting it close.

Had my dad make some brackets bought some 1/2" S.S. hood pins from the local speed shop (summit racing)

Welded the other mating bracket to the frame with the slip fit mating holes for the hood pins.

Yes it is probably over engineered but it is rock solid. You can also see the battery brackets I welded to the frame as well. I still need to work out the wiring fasteners so they are a little nicer.

I never would have thought about composite lumber for the base. That is a great idea. The pin hood latches also a good one, quick easy access in case of road problems The battery under the cowl really cleans up the look. I love some the ideas people on this site come up with
 
Thanks for the comments. Yeah the composite lumber has worked out really good so far its cheap, easy to cut, sand, and work with but it is just a tad on the heavy side very sturdy and strong though. Time will tell on how it handles weather and a regular beating they say its good on decks and stuff for like 50 years or something like that. Thanks again.
 
That composite wood will be in good shape for the next 30 yrs. that is why i think it is good idea for those who are metal challenged
 
Love the idea, but would have made the hump shape more pointed.
Looks like half a soccer ball glued there.
Really smart fastening. Will do something similar on my bike.

I love what you have come up with there...good thinking and the Trex material should easily last...My question is how does the seat stay snug? In the pictures it looks like the kotter pins are well below the bottom mating surface...


Edit: Ahh...sorry...I went back and looked again.The reflection makes the hood pins look longer than they are. Well done sir...

The hood pins due stick down a little past the mating block but they are adjustable so I could snug the cotter pins up tight to it if I had to. When I had my dad make the blocks the pins are a slip fit so they are a pretty snug fit, not hard to pull off but there is no slop so it doesn't bounce or anything when you hit bumps.
 
I kind of like the raw foam look. It looks like you have a giant brain on the back of your seat.
 
Yeah I wasn't real sure on what shape to make exactly so I just measured around the battery and kinda came up with what you see now. I just figure it is what it is, some like it some don't, either way its all good.
 
is that spray foam just like the ''great stuff'' you get from the hardware store? that turned out really good
 
The cushion so far will be made from gardening kneeler pads they seem to have the best density foam I haven been able to find so far and then covered in a nice leather.

Jabber yes that is the insulation blow foam that is sold at all your local hardware stores Home depot etc. I think it may have actually been "great stuff".
 
I know, I know it sounds weird but next time you are at your local hardware store pick one up and feel the density of the foam. I rode all last year on a double layer (2" thick) that was supposed to be temporary but it so comfortable I left it until now I am doing the new seat. But that padding is awesome and cheep!
