    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My escaping spark plugs..

My plugs are working themselves free (at least to the point of compression leaks) and quickly, in less than a half hour of engine power... the holes don't feel stripped, and I have been cranking them in about 1/4-1/3 turn past *tight* as it is..

I'm now carrying a socket wrench set with me at all times, for as soon as I turn the bike off I'm having to readjust them if I ever hope to get moving again... *hard to start out in first with compression leaks in 2-3 of 4 cylinders*

what should I do? how can I keep these slippery b@st@rds in place?

btw, if looking from left to right, cylinders numbered 1243, cylinders 124 are slipping... I tested compression in 4 & 3, but got distracted by housework before I finished... they were both at something like 135-150psi.
 
Try and get some new crush gaskets for each one and use a torque wrench when installing. Other than that I suppose just a dab of BLUE locktite on the threads would work.

I don't now if Loctite would do any good that close to the heat....Mike
 
Does the bike vibrate badly? If threads are stripped, it can blow a plug out, but compression does not distribute any rotational force to a plug.
Compression force PLUS vibration would cause them to loosen and turn out.

Do you have the right plugs?

You might want to use a torque wrench to make sure they're at the right tightness.

I agree that the crush gaskets might be the problem, but I've never seen it, even on plugs I've removed and reinstalled many times. Nevertheless, perhaps you could try a new set of plugs.

If the threads on the cylinder head are worn, you could have helicoils installed. Maybe a machine shop could check the threads to make sure they're still within tolerance limit.

If the threads are corroded or dirty, the plugs may feel like they're tight, but maybe not. Maybe some cleaning and a little oil will allow the plugs to seat tighter.
 
I've never seen plugs come loose unless there is already a helicoil or timsert (sp?) that is coming loose. If the threads were bad, the plug would be spinning by now rather than tightening. BTW, from left to right the cylinders are 1234.

Just an additional note, 1243 is the firing order. bangka bangka bangka bangka
