so. i was working on this all winter. i haven't posted a thread before now because i really haven't broken new ground here. there are a ton of gsr's who have perfected these mods and i couldn't have done it without help from this forum. especially tone and katman.
it's an 80 gs1000e with 92 gsxr750 front end, gs1100e swinger, 93-95 front and rear gsxr wheels with the armless caliper setup. 92 gsxr rearsets. bugeye headlights made from stuff i had around the garage. the seat cut and covered by a shop in town.
i have more pics from the build and some details if anyone is interested.
i do want to highlight some lessons learned.
anyone tring to run a 180 rear do yourself a favor and for pete's sake get a 520 sprocket setup. i kept the 530 setup but it takes more hammering and grinding on the frame than you should have the stomach for.
i thought i'd get fancy and run a set of 15" vipex shocks that were marketed to the cb1100f.net guys a while back. they look super cool but they are just too long for this setup. i'm running some questionable cb1100f stockers until my hagons arrive.
anyone wrapping headers, phone a friend, buy them beer. do whatever it takes to get a helper. it is a test of patience with 2 people. it is a nightmare by yourself.
it is worth the 100 bucks to have a local upholstery shop cut and cover your seat. i am notorious for doing things on the cheap but the fit and finish is worth it.
i've had it out a bit and the clip-ons and rearsets are not as uncomfortable as i'd originally feared. unfortunately it's temporarily grounded since i discovered the rectifier/regulator popped a diode. i remember the end of last season i thought the charging system wasn't operating 100% but of course i promptly forgot once i tore in to the project. who cares about the charging system when you have all these awesome parts laying around. there's another lesson. remember the basics.
