Hi,
Here is a gallery of my bike.
http://community.webshots.com/album/292743244qEgIVR

I sat in my shop for about an hour yesterday thinking about a color scheme, then I remembered I had about 2 hours of homework HA! But before I went inside I think I decided I'm gunna go all black, I meen all black, paint just everything on the bike semigloss black, chrome and all would be painted, except the chrome cam ends, the front shocks where they slide up and down, and the bolts obviosly. Then when all is said and done throw a small dark red light under the gas tank for the night, think thatd be a good idea or no, I am in search of you guy's advise. We have a compressor I'd just have to buy the paint and a small atomizer. Thank you!-darren

eh, honestly I'm kinda bored of chrome, every other bike you see out there is black and dripping with chrome. Seems the new bikes are starting to fade away from chrome, I think it'll be a think of the past come a few years. Then again... "before you become old and wise you must 1st be young and stupid" haha I dunno, I guess i'll give it some more thought, anyone have any all black bikes/ pics of em? just for refrence. thanks-darren

I painted my CM450 black...but still has lots of chrome.

Personally, I am not big on chrome, but black works. Perhaps you could do the frame in semi gloss, the tank/bodywork gloss with a ton of clear and all the previously chrome/alloy pieces in a nice satin/matt finish? Now that would rock! Add a little red pinstriping, just a touch, and you would own the road.

Dont take my advice though, as I am going to do mine when funds allow, with a white/pink colourscheme, and that isnt to everyone's taste... CJ

Hey,
I went to the huge custom chopper show in the cities today man was that a eye opener, paint scemes, they had every combo you could think of, every one of em was just beautiful. I also got a small pretty nice "small job" sprayer, and got some new ideas. The bike that really jumped out at me was this all black one except a few chrome parts and the chrome pipes, most parts were semi gloss, body parts were gloss black, and the tank was faded from black on the bottom to a very deep red flame job on the top.... The idea I got out of that was same idea of everything semi gloss /gloss black except make the body parts a deep deep red or maybe do some type of deep red to black on the body parts??? any takers? yay? nay? also where do you guy's get your paints? Thanks!!-darren

Speedy is a man after my own heart. I personly hate chrome on my bike. I love it other people's bikes, especially when I'm riding and they are polishing. I am fasinated by work, I could watch it all day. If I had the where with allto make it happen all the shiny crap on my bike would be blacked out in some manner. Did I mention I hate chrome on my bike.

Paint it black and ride it like you stole it!

Take a look at the new Victory 8-Ball for an example of a good looking black color scheme. It may inspire you to go ahead with your idea. Personally, I like it.

hey guys,
Yesterday I went to my local napa and the guy there(friend of mine) restores older 80's-70's bikes so he gave me a huge book of colors and so I sat in the window(in the sun) looking at colors for about an hour. I found a color for my bike.. it looks just like a gloss black till you get in the sun you can see a deep deep blue(metal flake). I think I'm gunna go with that. Thanks for your opinions and all. Also for anyone planning on painting there bike, he highly siggested you get a paint that a manufacture used to use on a car, it'll be about 1/2 price of "custom paints" aka the same thing...-darren

Hi there,

Flat black or satin are in my opinion beautiful colors for Suzuki GS bikes. Or for almost any bike for that matter. I used Rustoleum high temp flat black to paint my GS body pieces. I'll post some pics soon when I'm done putting it back together. It just looks bad ass. It stands up very well to solvents etc, and smudges and scrapes from reassembly somehow add to the character of the finish. I did leave the chrome bits and the engine aluminum alone. For now.....

Well, so far I've primered the front fender, primered but still smoothing the side panels, smoothing the tank out yet, the rear fender is primered(I got a new "flush" style brake light, and bondo'd up to the light, should look real nice when all is done. And then I finally sold my old 1982 hondamatic 450 today!! So I went and bought all the rest of the paint and such I needed for the project... cant wait till its done.-darren

this is kind of a late post for this thread, but i thought id tell you what i plan on doing to my bike

im going pretty much all black with a single person white leather seat on springs(might have those powder coated black), and im going to sand down my tires so i will have some wide whites.

Im going to have a buddy of mine powder coat the trailer fender im using for the rear, no front fender.

Im trying to find a suitable 550 tank to put on my bike (it's an 850) and im going to have a buddy of mine spray it gs90 flat black.

Im removing everything not neccasry, all the plastic stuff, and covers. The covers that used to be on the side that were plastic ive removed and plan on putting wire mesh as covers and get them powder coated black.

Im going to use high temp black paint and paint the inside of the fins on the head black. I am also going to paint parts of the carbs and the diff (its a shaftie) with the high temp pain. As well as other miscilaneous parts will be black

I think the only chrome on the bike will be some ape hangers (if i ever find some i can afford) and a head lamp my GF's uncle got me from his salvage yard.

And the finaly touch will be fairly personal. Since im a pinstriper (or at least a wanna be striper) im going to do my own custom pinstrip job on it, and on the carbs and on the diff. and anywhere else i feel like.

So this is basiclly not going to look like a GS at all, but hopefully someone other than me will like it. and maybe eventually ill make a sissy bar for it and get it powder coated black as well.

good luck, and post some pics of your bike when your done

Sounds like an awesome idea, just make sure not to try and PC some plastic parts  . I got mine painted(thread is also in the Appearance mods under "As promised after phase 3 pics") I still want to paint misc. parts black, like the engine and what not, but till the money starts rollin in and I stop getting tickets... yeah it'll be awhile.-darren

haha, im an idoit

I read your post, and thought, what kind of a dumbass would try to powder coat plastic. then i went and reread my post, and noticed i totally left out the part about putting in wire mesh
