A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

My new project 1982 GS650G

I was amazed at how good of shape it is in. The electrical is even looking good. The harnesses have not been hacked to death or anything.

That is a seriously good-looking gift. Even the paint looks good. The stripes on my 83 GS650G are flaking off so straight gloss black is one option I am considering.

Carb gunk will be the biggest problem if the bike hasn't run for a while, but this site (and BassCliff) has lots of great help and tutorials available.

they actually look ok but I am going to rebuild them anyways. The Paint is Harley Vivid black. I like it. What do you guys think of white walls on this bike?

As far as white walls go, there are none that'll fit (100/90/19 Front). There are though, white lettered tires. Had a set on when I first got the bike and they look good, IMO, on black or white bikes.

Any idea where to find a brake light lense for a 1982 GS650g?

Check a parts finder to see if an 81 & 82 are the same. If they are, Steve (lurch12_2000) might still have one for sale.

There's a few on Ebay right now. Or post up in the Parts Wanted forum. Oh and welcome and nice bike. Looks like someone took care of it. Looks like Accell coils, crash bars, progressive rear shocks... Nice paint too.

THe more I dig into this more amazed I am. I am going to do a valve check this weekend hopefully and start swapping lines.

Can I buy fuel line and vent line at a local auto parts store?

Can I buy fuel line and vent line at a local auto parts store?
You can, but it won't be right. :-\\\

The fuel line is thin-wall 7 mm tubing. Anything you are likely to find at the auto parts store is thick-wall, pressure rated tubing that will stand up to fuel injector pump pressures and will come in 1/4" (6.25 mm) or 5/16" (8 mm) sizes. The 1/4" tubing won't stretch over the fittings on the bike and the 5/16" tubing will require a clamp. The thicker tubing is also harder to get it to bend the way you want. The stock tubing fits very nicely and I don't bother with a clamp on my bikes. You can get the tubing from any of the online suppliers mentioned on BassCliff's greeting. It sounds like it's rather expensive at about $20 (the last time I got some), but you get several feet of it for that price, so it's not too bad.

Ok I was successful in removing the carb intake boots and only had to use the dremel on one screw. I took a flashlight and look in the holes at what assume is the valves (upside down icecream cone) and they were covered in a black crust like oil had crusted on. What should I do about that? Is there an easy fix on do I have to pull the top end? THanks for the help.

Yesterday I swapped out the rear brakeline for a stainless steel braided line and completely flushed out the brake system front and back. Today I started taking the carbs apart and hopefully I will start dipping them.

I have been slowly but surely cleaning things up on this bike. I dont have her fully running yet but I keep staring at her and I am not feeling it for the style. I might turn it into a bobber. I will have to sell the parts I take off of her to fund it but we will sees.
