OK. So I bought an 82 GS1100EZ. I'd like to clean up the cosmetics on it. I want to know about the original color scheme. Here are a couple photos for reference. I have some additional questions.

Tell me if I'm right or how I'm wrong:

In the stock 1982 GS1100EZ...

1) The transmission case is entirely finished in highly polished aluminum.

2) The engine is also polished aluminum.

3) The swingarm is polished aluminum.

4) The camshaft covers are black with silvery stripes parallel to the engine fins.

5) The springs on the rear suspension are chromed (or is it polished?)

6) The breather box is jet black.

7) There are no holes for sissy bar, etc. in the rear cowling.

8) There is no place on the entire bike provided for storing registration papers, etc.

9) The handgrips are made of a fairly hard rubber with lateral ridges parallel to the handlebar.

1) the removable cases a bright finished! clutch cover, ignition cover, stator cover & drive sprocket cover,
2)Then crankcases are painted silver ( the paint is shown on the parts fiche but is No Longer Available)
3)the swingarm is Satin finished (low gloss)
4)Correct
5) The rear springs are white powder coated
6) Correct, raw gloss finish plastic.
7) Correct
8) there is room for such things in a small tray under the seat or in the ducktail with the toolkit.
9) Correct.

Here are some pics of my stock 1100EZ except for pipe, jetting and K&N in the airbox.

This picture here shows the top of the engine. a look from the other side

Here is a shot of the swingarm and my rear shocks. Brushed aluminum and black.

My Tank sticker is also in a different location than the one pictured above....

WOW Way to go Leasing Guy. Very sweet. Nice and clean all the way around.
My 83's tank sticker is in the same position as yours.
I wonder if the GS with the sticker at an angle ala' Katana was due to the website being Finnish. Could have been an Europe thing.
I remember right and seen magazine photos that show it on the tank as ours.

For the best decals to use, go to http://www.reproductiondecals.com

Thanks Doug, I just bought the bike and haven?t even got it home yet. Its 200 miles away and Ill looking to borrow a truck but that?s tough on Memorial day weekend. It's super clean and has 6300 original miles. The seller even has the Motor Cyclist and Cycle Magazines that feature the GS1100EZ on the cover. The Cycle Magazine reads "Undisputed Superbike King"! Can you tell I'm excited?

Mine's red

My S is white with blue
Come on Keith,,,we haven't seen any pictures of the red one yet.

You gonna make us wait till the Maine Ride??

The north american bikes are slightly different to look at from the overseas bikes, but both schemes look sharp.

Cuurious things:

The VIN plate states that I have a GS1100EZ, made in 12/81.

My engine is stamped as a GS1100EX. It uses the small D8EA spark plugs so it's probably still the TSCC 16-valve engine, right?

The SUZUKI decal is horizontal and more to the front and top of the tank (like everybody is saying).

There are backrest/grabrail holes in my rear cowling, and a frame piece backing them up. The frame piece isn't painted so I souldn't be surprised if it was aftermarket.

There is no place in the tail to put papers or toollkit. I have a ziplock duct taped to the top side of the fender to hold my registration.

My seat is smooth, no ridges or grooves like everybody elses'.

I know this bike's been significantly modded. Looks like a got a mutt. But what do you think is up with the different year designations?

Take a closer look at the engine number, it actually reads GS110X-######.
The build date tells you what model it is, according to Suzuki Australia , any Suzuki motorcycle manufactured after the 7th mnoth of the previous year is built as the next years model, i.e. 7/81= 82 model hence GS(X)1100EZ.
BTW the X in the engine number tells you it is a 16 valve.

Enlightening. Thanks!

The quickest way to tell between a 82 and 83 is the engine color. 82's came with a polished aluminum motor and the 83 was black.
Only if someone painted the motor would this be different.
I think maybe the fork legs were polished on the 82.

Besides the internal differences.

My engine actually is black on all the side covers, probably an aftermarket paint job. And my forks are black also. Don't know when that happened.

Airbox design is different on the '83....I think the clutch too is different in the # of plates/thickness of the plates.....the fork legs on my '82 are black, not polished.

OK consider yourself Kicked  :P [-X

What is the buikd date of your "82" if it 7/82 or after it is actually an 83 model , which would explain why it has a black motor and fork legs.
