As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

Hello

I just installed drag bars on my 82 gs 850 L and every thing is to long of course. I need a new master cilynder. New brake line. New throttle cable, clutch cable, choke cable. I know where to get a custom brake line done. I just dont know about the other parts. Are these other cables a standard type cable that I could order in different lengths?

Could cables from other bikes be used on my bike?

I feel all the cables need to be about 4 inches shorter than what I have now.

Thanks

Z1 can make any length cable you need. I think they are one of the few companies that can. I'm sure some others will chime in on other bikes to get lines from or companies.

I'm not a fan of their "regular" cables, but Motion Pro has a custom cable service.

It's also not all that hard to shorten stock cables:

To be honest, most of us just find a way to reroute the cables that takes up a bit of the extra room. Or, if you have an L model, install the cables from the corresponding "regular" model.

Wasn't there a company making aftermarket cables that was discussed here a few years back? Much better than MotionPro, came in colors, etc.?
I did not track them, but I remember a link was provided.

OR...you can go to FLANDERS and get whatever cable ends you need, cut them down and resolder a new end on.

You basically stick the cut end thru the new barrel and fray the end. Then fill the barrel with lead and let cool. Then trim the lead over fill away and your done. Cost you a few bucks and a melted fishing weight.

Again...make you own with an end from Flanders. You can get stainless cable from many sources...fishing down riggers use 1 1/2 to 2 MM sire...which fits into the casings. Aircraft control wire may also work. Or if its a shorter one you need...then chop and add whatever end you need.

Unless things have changed, Flanders will shorten cables for you as a service (or make new ones using your old ones as a model). It's been a couple a years since I sent cables to them for shortening, but from memory the service was reasonable and the turnaround time was quick.

The 1000S cables worked for my 650G, but it was tight on the choke side for the euro touring bar until I took a more direct path for the cable. I used a 650M (Katana) speedo cable which took some fiddling, but worked in the end.
