    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Need Aluminum plug inside carb '80 gs550

EDIT: I asked a mod to move this, since I got the parts I need, and it turned into more of a tech thread...

I am missing two of these plugs, as seen in this picture...

Does anyone have two in their misc parts that they could spare? I could also use one of the flat washers that hold them in place if you have it (I still have the other 3). Please let me know if you can help!

that is merely a plug they used AFTER drilling the idle ports... I never take them out.

If you can't find the plugs, maybe someone has some old carb bodies where the float posts broke off? I cut one carb body in half to retrieve one of those plugs for another bike.

That's what I was hoping for, but I ended up just buying an ebay carb body since the seller got back to me quickly. I'll end up with the fourth plug, as well as the idle screw that I had to drill out (it was seized badly and completely stripped). The replacement body was only slightly more expensive that buying the tap to repair the threads on the body that I had to drill, and by the time I bought the replacement needle and the missing plug (not for the idle screw), I probably would have spent more than just buying a new carb body.

Not the plug over the idle screw... this one is in the float bowl. I wouldn't have taken them out, but two of them fell out when I was cleaning the carbs and rolled off into the abyss in the garage. I found one of them, the other probably won't be found until I move, if ever.
 
I had the same situation,dipped my carbs and two plugs went missing.I did not know they existed until then.Fortunately found them in the bottom of the dip can.

You had to cut the body? Two of mine fell out, and the others I could easily push out from the other side if I wanted to. I wonder if yours had a bunch of corrosion?

Also, if anybody is looking for those flat washers (they didn't come in my kit from Cycleorings.com), my Suzuki dealer had them in stock for $2.50 each.
 
Those plugs are press fit into the carb bodies. I used epoxy when replacing that one that came out.

Would you have that part number? looked on Boulivard Part Fiche but could not for the life of me spot them.

Part number for the BS32 carb is 13258-44080.

If you want, I can take a caliper and measure the o-ring, to see if it would be the same dimensions as yours... Let me know.
 
O-ring dimensions (From BS32 off 1980 GS550E):
Part Number=13258-44080
OD=10mm
ID=5mm
Thickness=2mm


Carb Plug dimensions:
OD=10mm
OD of necked-down section = 9.5mm
Height=6mm
Height of necked-down secton=2mm

That is because they are not part of "normal maintenance". :-k

Those o-rings are actually a square-section ring, and are only there as spacers to keep that aluminum plug in place.
In normal use, there is no "wear and tear" on them, so they don't need to be replaced, unless you lose them. :rolleyes:

Exactly. I didn't mean that as a criticism of the cycleorings.com kit, in fact I was thrilled with the quality and completeness of it. I just wanted people to know where to find that funky square-ring if they lose it.
