Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have an 82 GS1100E, it has K&N oval pods, V&H 4 into 1. Right off idle it has a flat spot, not big or long, but it is there. I can barely roll on the gas, and go through the gears, and I wont feel it. But the second I pull it open say 1/8 it takes off, small gerbal, and then it goes. It doesnt even feel bad, unless you hold it right there in the nasty little spot. Wide open it goes, really hard. 1/4 throttle or more it goes good. It just has that nasty little small spot. I took the baffle out of the exhaust, and it got a little bit worse, so I am thinking it is running lean on the pilot jets.

Any help or insight would be appreciated.

Have you done the recommended plug chops yet and tuned from there (procedure on Basscliff's site) to find out for sure?

You should be able to fix this with your idle screws. A low rpm plug chop will help you.

No I put fatter mains in it years ago. I believe I bought a jet kit for it, or was it the black 81, LOL. I have 6 of these 1100E's they sat up for quite a while, but I lost track, life gets in the way sometimes. I didn't ride for years, and later I started riding again. I have always used plug readings for the mains, I have never used any type of plug reading for pilots. If you can use a plug reading to check out the pilot mixture I will try it. I am also being told I can use the idle screws to probably correct this. Any suggestions from here would be appreciated.

It sounds like you are having issues with the transition from the pilot jet to the needle.
There is no such thing as a pilot screw, unfortunately. There are the air/fuel mixture screws, which I address in the link in my signature. Perhaps that is what you are referring to? I admit that I have never heard of a transition issue with these screws, merely idle issues.
Texasgs, do you have a jet kit in the bike, such as a DynoJet Stage 3 kit? DynoJet spends most of their time tuning the needle, since they feel this needs the most attention on CV carbs. With pods and a pipe the Stage 3 kit is the recommended solution.
The pilot jets are really only for idle. Once you start to accelerate, you are on the needle, with some influence from the main jet.

I had exactly the same issue on my GS 1000 with CV carbs, pods and a Dynojet stage 3 kit.
It drove me crazy because I tried almost everything possible without fixing it until...I replaced the Dynojet needle by a Mikuni needle:confused:
Now I have European spec carbs and that might explain my particular issue?

I meant idle mix screws, must have been late. As far as the flat spot it is gone at 1/16 throttle. If I am just barely off idle, and I mean barely it is the only time it does it. That is why I was thinking pilot jet problems.

I will try that method you outlined, because it is a very very small stumble.
