As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

I have 81gs850g and I just replaces intake manifold boots. Got it back together only runs on full choke and when you give it throttle it falls on face. Pulled jets out cleaned it pulled foot and needle valve off cleaned it still does it. Im lost. The carbs have plugs in bowl. Pulled them out cleaned it all still no improvement. Any ideas? Diaphrams are good. Any ideas?

Is the airbox installed, sealed, and complete with an air filter?

It will act EXACTLY as you have described.

It will also make a BIG difference when you finally clean and rebuild the carbs. :-\\\

.

Sounds like those carbs and air box are extremely lean and restrictive from the factory. I bet an exhaust jet kit and pods really have a seat of the pants change?

On a 550, not much of a change in power. The biggest difference will be the exhaust note. Not worth the trouble of re-jetting and tuning, IMHO.

They are somewhat lean from the factory, in order to meet the emissions laws when they were built. The stock air box and filter work perfectly on a stock bike.

He has an 850, not a 550.

You need to clean those carbs right, get a proper airbox (or rejet for pods) and get the valves properly adjusted. Won't run right until you get that done.

No, it won't

Go up and read the My bike doesn't run well sticky

Just hard to believe that not having the Airbox on it will cause it to basically not run at all.

I have the airbox its perfectly fine. It wasn't on bike when i get it. I replaced intake boots and o rings and was just starting it for first time. Bike is completely stock right down to clutch starter switch. Couldn't figure out why start button didn't work, pulled out my digital meter and traced to to a very worn clutch lever switch. Pulled headlight bucket off as Steve told me and bypassed it

It's not like the old carbureted cars, where removing the stock air cleaner restriction might be an improvement.

These bikes generally make more horsepower/cubic whatever than cars of the era; i.e., they're kind of high performance, and pickier about changes to their configuration.

Just every internal combustion engine I've ever dealt with has ever done this. idles at 3k under full choke and throttle blips make it fall on its face. Definitely starving for fuel
