DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Ok i have a 1979 GS 550E in which i am in process of rebuilding the carbs, i was wondering if anyone has a trick to get the brass screws out of the slide assembly to remove the needle with out stripping out head!!!!!! OH MY GOODNESS !!! any help will be appreciated Thanks:eek:

No, I get the impression that he is trying to remove the two screws in the slide so he can remove the needle.

HC, you will need a VERY good-fitting (preferrably NEW) screwdriver, and it REALLY helps if it is the proper JIS driver, not a Phillips. If you can't find a JIS driver, a Pozi-Driv will work.

Yes the two brass screws in the throttle slide to remove the needle. wouldnt happen to know size JIS would that be

Also any ideas on what one should do if one should strip out the screw head with the LIMITED amount of space between slide wall and attachment housing

Not sure if it is a #1 or a #2, but you will eventually need both of those, along with a #3, so you might as well get the entire set.

If you should happen to strip one out, I would suggest a left-handed drill bit.

They do come out easily with a regular screw driver. They generally aren't frozen in there in the first place, so just remove them is my suggestion.

Assuming the head is not mangled.

The more damaged the head is, the better you need a driver to fit.

Okay Thanks i will see what happens after i get my JIS screwdrivers

Well i guess we will have to use the drill bit out of the eight screws I got seven out with out stripping using the JIS screwdriver

If you look in the "tools" area, you can find left-handed drill bits at Auto Zone, Advance Auto, Schucks, whatever you have close by. Usually a 5-piece set, it sells for about $10.
