As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

My apologies for posting this in the wrong forum, I'm new here!

Ok so let me give you a quick history of this particular bike. I bought it with 6000 miles, great right? No, the guy I bought it from "cafe'd" it out, aka cut out the air box, put pod filters on it, cut the pipes just after the header bent, stripped down the electrics, ect. Needless to say it was awful, he didnt rejet for the changes and the bike ran terrible. I found an old airbox, put the correct air filter in it, replaced the pipes with nos 1979 GS450 pipes, they are slightly larger then the stock pipes but they fit with only slight modification. I rejetted the 34mm butterfly vulvae Mikunis, but to be honest these things are ****ed, with all the heat the motor was building when the previous owner was riding they just cooked the carbs, floats were warped, gaskets are trashed, there just not worth rebuilding.

Now this brings me to my current state, what carbs do I replace them with? I was told to look for 35mm round slide Mikunis, (I build racing mopeds, 2-stroke 50cc's, I use the VM and TM 18mm-24mm Mikunis on all of my bikes) but I have no idea which 35mm Mikuni to use or where to find them? Maybe you know which carb to use and where to find them? If that isn't the ideal carb to go with, I'm more then open to advice! Thanks in advance for the help

Easiest path is to rebuild your carbs or get a rebuildable set of stockers for your bike. Check this website for a nice 450 carb rebuild tutorial...http://members.dslextreme.com/users/bikecliff/

Oh, and do NOT purchase "carb kits" other than ordering an O-ring kit from cycleorings.com. While you are at it please check the Newbie Mistakes thread linked in my signature so you know what some of the common pitfalls are.

Good luck

the heat from the motor wont "cook" the carbs, strip them, dip them and rebuild them with new O rings and then set them up properly and they will work fine.

I do believe they are hopeless, I missed that action, but they didn't sell so I messaged the seller, hopefully he will get back to me, thanks for the lead.

So if you were to upgrade to a superior to stock carb what would you recommend?

These critters left japan with lots of power, and decent driveability over a wide rpm range- not sure you could do better without a lot of messing around and expense.
No matter what carbs you use, proper cleaning is a must ; CV's don't tolerate quickee cleaning, due to lots of tiny passages in starting/low speed circuits,so follow Nessism's advice to avoid frustration.

Fix the ones you have. There is no point in spending money on a used set of carbs that you will still have to clean and buy new orings/floats/gaskets for. Unless someone took a sledgehammer to the bodies or it was in a really bad accident they should be fine. If you want to upgrade, pre-02 GS500 carbs are supposed to be a direct swap.
