    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New clutch dragging?

I just installed a new barnett clutch in my 79 gs1000. The clutch works great when the engine is still warming up but once the oil get up to running temp the clutch starts to drag. Making it impossible to shift when stopped and you must hold the brake on. I have all slack taken out of the clutch cable but still no help.

So any helpful info would be great, has anyone else had this problem and what did you do to fix it?
 
If the clutch actuator isn't off a tooth grit it out and let the clutch break in.
 
Clutch cable needs a little slick in it or it will drag when engine temp is up.
 
Did you properly torque the springs or did you wrench them down.
 
I don't know just how recent your new clutch is. I can tell you when I changed by clutch discs and springs I had serious clutch drag for a couple of days. I was even having a hard time shifting the bike. Then I took the bike on the Galena Ill ride and up to Wisconsin. I had no problem with the clutch after a good 600 mile adventure. It was also hard on clutch cables the first year.

I would suggest you just hit the road for a week or so and see if the problem goes away.
 
Did you use the Barnnet springs ?? that could be your problem. Stock clutch plates are best !!

This is typical of Barnett clutches. You have to over adjust the cable (take all the free play out and then some) to get enough pull to minimize the drag when at stop lights etc. Once you get tired of the problem the correct fix is original Suzuki plates and springs.

Sorry to bring bad news.
 
It is not just about Barnett clutch partsa. when I was working on my 1100G, I think the only springs Dennis Kirk had were Vesra heavy duty and yeah they are heavy. the clutch discs were just standard discs (Vesra again). Still they were a PITA to break in but after a few hundred miles all was well.
