    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

So while I stripping my bike down I noticed the speedometer is only limited to 85mph and was thinking of replacing it with a Dakota digital mini speedometer but wasnt sure if this is a good idea or just because im 23 and want to know really how fast this bike can go on the black top? any thhoughts or have heard of this being done would help.

What you can do on rare occassion of topping out the speedo, notice tachometer reading then later slow down to where tach reading is half of what it was, notice the speedo reading and double that is what speed you were at before.
Or do the opposite: at 50 mph look at tach and then know that twice that on tach will be 100mph.

If you are talking about more than a rare occassion, yah, you might want to explore other options.

Or just use a bungee cord or duct tape to attach a GPS unit.

Its reading will be much more accurate than a typical speedometer.

Depending on the GPS unit, it might even have a "Maximum Speed" feature that will record the actual speed, since you might be too busy hanging on to actually look at the GPS. :D

Ok you guys are very creative, but I was really wondering about upgrading the tach and speedo to digital.

Another "estimated" top speed tip

This was my method of finding my stock 850G's top end, I like you am young and like to go faster than 85 from time to time.

Find a buddy with a new sport bike, 600cc or above. Anything that can top 150 ish. Find a good two lane road with no Cops, traffic, blind corners, bumps, etc.

My favorite part....

Chin the tank. Wide open throttle. Grin like a maniac. :D

Have your buddy match your speed in the other lane. When you, OR your bike, feel like you've topped out, simple back down and resume riding normally. At the next fuel stop (which shouldn't take long to run through some gas at triple digits) have him tell you your speed. Its very simple. And a boat load of fun... :D

PS on my best run I did a little over 135 :eek: and I get butterflies in my stomach remembering the event, it was that exhilarating!

But yeah that other gauge looks pretty cool too. :rolleyes:
 
You guys are great I have done 148 on my friends Honda CBr 900 and I feel I could do that with my gs1000 so I really want to be able to full throttle the bike and hold on for dear life
