All new forum registrations must be activated via email before you have full access to the forum.

A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hello everyone,
I just bought a 1983 suzuki gs650g and heard about this website. Been looking around and you guys certainly seems to be a great bunch.

The bike is a little rough and will need some work. It runs and shifts well. I will try to upload pics once I figure out how.
This project is a bit daunting but I really wanted to take a shot at it. I've worked on dort bikes, snowmobiles and cars but not motorcycles. I mean, I've changed oil and done maintenance but that's about it. Any help along the way will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome Zach. Sounds like you have a mechanical background, so with that and this site you should be fine. Good luck and enjoy.

Zach,

Welcome to GSR.

Myself being from Michigan, Would my first quess about "yooper" be correct?

650Gs are great. I had one for 20+years.

A lot of us here will say that we were similar to what you say, in that had expereince changing oil and such, and slowly worked into doing more on the bike. And you will want to yourself also. Well, unless you want to pay shop hours for simple stuff, to someone who may not be that familiar with it. (assuming you can find a place that WILL work on a 30+ year old bike. heck, some places refuse anything over 10 years).

A couple good things to start on, with your new-to-you bike will be to check the valve clearance and check the charging system. (can talk about that more when you want).

Best way to post pics is to first have them on some other photo hosting site like photobucket or one of the other similar sites.

DO tell us more of your adventure with the 650.

.

Welcome! New owner here too. In fact I haven't even seen my bike yet! I have a feeling that this site is going to be incredibly helpful!
