A Special Note about Email accounts!
DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New guy having some issues

Hey everyone, I'm new to the forum and have been searching and reading a lot on here. I own a 83 gs450 suzukimatic. Got it cheap as a project and have been working on it. When I got it the guy said it ran good last summer. He left the gas set to prime and the tank of gas that was in it ended up mixed with the oil. It got a new oil filter and oil put in it. He said the carbs had been cleaned but who knows how true that is. I pulled them off and opened them up and they were clean. I do plan on doing a dip just to be safe here sooner than later. Long story short the issue I'm have currently is that I started the bike up a couple days ago. It fired right up without issue every time I started it before I took it for a ride. I ran it down the street real quick for the first time and about a mile down the rd it was bogging some so I slowed to take a u turn and head back home and it died. I tried restarting it and it would turn over but not fire up. The battery died and I ended up pushing it home. When I try to start it it will turn over but not start. I pulled my spark plugs and set them on the engine and made sure they had a spark. Both were good. To me it seems like maybe it's not getting gas but I'm not sure to be honest. When I pulled the carbs off again there was some gas sitting on the boots between the carb and engine. When I pull the spark plugs they are dry. Any ideas as to what to look at or what route to take from here is appreciated. I'm no motorcycle mechanic but have no issue trying to do things on my own Sorry this was a long post I was just trying to give everyone so easy insight to what's was happening. Thanks in advance

First thing you should have done was open the bowl drains a little to see if there was any fuel getting to them. If yes, then the next thing is even though they "LOOK" clean doesnt mean diddly squat. They have sat and they have had fuel coagulating in the jets and plugging up all the passages as it turned to varnish.

They need fully torn down and dipped..jets dipped and all the holes poked clean with a fine wire. And pay attention to the pilot jets as there is usually a small hole in the tip as well as the ones on the side. Once they are rebuilt ( with all new orings and pilot jet plugs...if it has pilot jet plugs..) bench sync them and she should run and stay running. In the interu, while carbs are soaking, check valve clearances etc etc. as per the manual.

Maybe get with this guy and see if he can help with the service. He says he has a factory service manual he got with his bike. Some cold ones and some brats on the grill may be a good day if hes willing to come up north. Flushings only an hr and change from The D. I was at I75 and Nine mile in hazel park for 28 years and am from a little town up north called AuGres.

Well I sure do appreciate the responses. I just got back from a ride. I took the tank off and went through all the wiring and connections. Pulled the battery out and made sure it wasn't low on fluid. Pulled the carbs again and made sure I had them cleaned good(still going to dip them eventually) put it back together and it fired up right away. Took it out for a bit and it ran great. Only issue now is it has a soft pop(backfire). Thinking it might be running rich. Gonna play with it tomorrow if I get some time. Again I appreciate everyone responding. I'll add a pic of my bike for those interested.
