    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

hello there! i am new to this forum but have learned a lot from it reading all the posts. I have a 1981 gs750 that is leaking oil out of what I think is called thre contact breaker cover. The oil is coming out of the little drain hole towards the bottom of the case itself, I have taken cover off but appears oil is coming from back behind. Anybody that can walk me through this would be great. I have looked at several diagrams online but I still dont know which gasket I need to get. Please Help! Thank you
 
Sounds like the crankshaft seal is leaking. You will have to remove the contact breaker plate and advance unit and then pull the seal out. Getting the new seal in properly can be somewhat tricky. I've never done one before so I'll let some of the others chime in with details.
 
A 1981 does not have a contact breaker cover, but if it is leaking from the ignition cover, the small round one on the right end of the crankshaft, it is not a gasket problem. There is an oil seal which seals the crankshaft where it comes out of the crank case, that seal must be leaking. Your drain hole is just there to keep the ignition dry if that seal springs a leak.

The oil seal can be replaced. How much is it leaking?
 
Good morning Ed.

A lot of folks put the seal in backwards, as it is shown backwards in some of the parts fiches.
Make sure it is sealing inwards.

Perhaps it is leaking because someone before you put it in backwards.
Post a picture of your seal before you remove it, we can see if it is in right.

Thanks for the info, it is just really dripping out when riding but getting blown back onto my boot and peg. After done riding maybe 2 small drips on floor and then it stops

It isn't in backwards then.

I've replaced these seals but only during a rebuild with the cases split. The cases pinch them pretty good and I'm not sure you can simply pull them out and put another in without splitting the cases and not bugger up the seal. I've been wrong before though.
