    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

New Handle bars, new issue!

I am pulling my hair out here, I just installed new handle bars (3ish inches shorter than stock) I started with routing per service manual, No good revs up when turning right revs down when turning left, I tried routing it two other ways with no luck. Any one have any tips for routing other than the normal no sharp tuns.
I currently have it with a good amount of clearance in-between brake line & tach cable, with a straight shot along the upper tube to the carb.
Don't know if this information is relevant but the end that connects to carb is adjusted all the way in ((less tension on throttle valve)

Any and all ideas/criticism is welcome!
 
I think I may have had same issue when I switched my handlebars, although can't recall the routing solution - think I just routed it more forward towards headlight. But if my noob a** could do it, you'll find a way. Make sure there is a bit of slack in throttle cable, at the leaver adjustment. Having said that, my bars were few inches lower - but if yours are lower and narrower then likely shorter cable.

Have you adjusted the free play in the cables? Revs changing normally happens because the cables are going tight as you swing from lock to lock. If you can't get free play then you likely need shorter cables.

That's odd. This usually happens when cables are too short.
A picture posted might help... I think you have a 650GL?

It may also help to use some pull ties to hold the cables in place along the upper frame tube, if you have not done this ...a bit of tape will do it too. Not too tight. Naturally you will experiment with routing and the binding issues you have with the tank off first?...
 
I finally got it, I have more end play than SM suggests but it works. I backed off every adjustment and started @ idle adjustment screw, lots of back and fourth but it now works like the old handle bars did.
