    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

I want to put on some drag/straight bars on my 85 GS550e, however I'm not sure of the necessary parts to get in order to run a different bar set-up. Is there an "adaptor" that has to go across the tree in order to mount new bars? The bars I have now are stock "clip-ons" that come up way too far.
 
There is only one member with risers on the triple clamp in that thread.If you can't figure it out I'm not telling you.
 
sorry, i should have specified. I'm more interested in the set-up shown in your picture. The other posted riser set up is too large for my liking and off coarse of what im trying to do with my bike. the smaller the riser the better.
 
OK.My setup is stock 83-86 750ES bars,and my last set of those are on the way to Ghostgs.Don't think you could get risers much smaller than what he has.Check to see what other bikes have 37mm forks then go on eBay to see if you can find something less expensive.Check Dime City Motorcycles(?)IIRC they have less expensive clip ons.
 
how big are the risers on your bars? from the picture it looks small, but its hard to tell from that angle.
 
that was a pic of the MC so the angle is not good for what you want to see.Here are some better ones:

this greatly helped me. i was searching for these bars, but what i really want are shorter risers. but finding them will be difficult. Thanks for posting those.
 
is there any company that makes aftermarket adapters to switch from the riser-setup to a traditional full bar set-up? Like an adapter for the tree? or possibly a place that sell's smaller risers for stock setups like mine?
 
switch out the triple trees? or at least the top. other than that you may be able to drill a hole for conventional risers since its in the meat of the top clamp it shouldn't mess with the structural integrity

but im no engineer

or you maybe able to just uses the bolt holes and attach a standard riser

what do you think would be compatible for swapping out the top section?
 
i haven't the faintest.. i was just spit balling ideas. personally i would see what bolts hold on your current risers and see if there is a common riser or bar/riser combo that has a similar bolt then clamp on your bars. but then again you can make any riser work if you "had to" with use of a drill. Just flip threw your dennis kirk catalog.. the section is on page 564 of the 2011 catalog. now if you are going with a more leaned forward kinda look theres always clamp ons.. but those may be too low

you could get those but you'd need a beefy 1 1/4" bar.. its mainly for referance

i guess ill just have to pop the bracket risers off and replace them with a set of clip-ons. I prefer the look of those anyways. I just can't remember the fork dimensions, so i can order some. Anyone know the diameter of an 85 gs550e front fork?

**EDIT: I came across 37mm, if someone can confirm this that would be great.
