    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Hi Guys,

I would like to introduce myself. I'm MotoSkooly and I live in the Netherlands. Since yesterday I am the owner of a bobber based on the GS450L Chopper. Chosen for Suzuki because of the good experience with previous Suzuki motorcycles and my Grand Vitara Jeep. Love bobbers and Suzuki, so....


He is not quite ready yet, so I still have a lot work to do. I hope i'm ready in the spring. He drives quite nicely with 1 open exhaust on the left side, and an ammunition box for electronics, rear light, license plate and a toothbrush for the weekend trips ;)

I hope to learn a lot from your knowledge and stories!

Fortunately, these bikes are rugged and will survive just about any injustice that is thrust upon them.

Good luck, hope you survive what has been done to the bike. It just looks so uncomfortable and (probably) obnoxiously loud. :oops:

And yes, the bike has been tackled rather hard, and certainly that open exhaust is not a good idea. That is of course on the list to set up a muffler. But there is much more to do. Hope that the basic's with engine and gearbox are ok. Still it drives and I had a small trip today and love'd very second of it. Cool bike :cool:

Thanks for the intro...most here don't approve of bobbers but you got what you got and now let's here more about your plans. I always suggest members who live in Europe take pics of their beautiful countryside...you've done that with pic of your house and garden in the background.

We love pics around here...but if you post them, be weary of people giving their distaste for such a bike. Carry on now...yeah!

Thanks Ed for the heads up.

I am happy to post more pictures when I'm on the road. Holland is small but great country, also for bikers, although you do not need to go to the countryside. Love US also, traveled a lot there from East to West.


And I understand not all people like bobbers or home made bikes. I like all kinds of bikes, owned many types of bikes and respect all bikers who are into their hobby.
 
Without an open exhaust not only will you annoy anyone within 1km, but it also causes lean running in the cylinder which can cause damage. You should park that bike and fix it properly before riding it.
 
I think Steve said it all but the most important part is that he hopes you survive the modifications. There were serious modifications made to get that huge tire on the back that may have damaged the swing arm and the handling is going to really suck. It will be like falling into a turn while the ass end swings out and around to catch up to the arc of the turn. The size ratios are all wrong and I know that one size larger on that bike barely fits and the wheel and tire you have are many sizes larger than it should be. That's what a lot of people dislike about these types of modifications. Many of them are very unsafe. It will be amazing if the front and rear sprocket are in line and there is not a lot of side flex in the swing arms. Other than that welcome to the forum. I'm sure there is more than enough expertise on this site to help you make a safe custom bike that you will really enjoy but I wouldn't trust anything the previous owner did to it.
 
Thank you OldVet66 for this replay. This is a little bit of an eye opener, thought that the basic rebuild was made quite ok and I can finish this myself. I will closer to the modifications which are made and ask some second opinion about that from a technical engineer I know. Still I keep good hoop to make it a nice (safe) bike for short trips.

Make sure to take properly-sized pics so we can help you prevent damage to the bike.
Upload them to imgur or some other picture hoster. The forum here itself is quite limited in this regard.

Not sure if the rear tire is as oversized as it seems; to my eye some wide-angle distortion exaggerates that greatly.
I agree that taking care of the exhaust should be high up on the list, surely there's some universal slip-on that will preserve the current looks.
 
Of the many bobbers i see I actually kind of dig yours. I like the solo seat and I like the ammo can!
 
I wanna see more pics posted on a host site with crisper clarity...then the opinions will really get rollin'! :)

That rear tire looks ambiguously large. And an ammo can? WTF, over? The exhaust is on the right side and not visible so we need to EVAL that condition.

Thank you! These ammo can's were used for ammunition to the Browning .50 Caliber Machine Guns. For me a bit of nostalgia because of my army tour where I used these....

But I understand the more critical comments, and I'm going to do my best to make it a nice bobber!
 
I actually own a couple of those cans .. but boringly .. I just keep ammo in them!! :)
 
Welcome motoskooly. While not generally a ?bobber? fan, I have seen some nice ones in google images. Am I the only one who cringes at the thought of the rider getting bounced on to an unprotected rear tire and, maybe best case, being turned into a eunich?

Maybe just add a shortened but reinforced rear fender?
