DO NOT SIGN UP USING hotmail, outlook, gmx, sbcglobal, att, bellsouth or email.com. They delete our forum signup emails.

A note to old forum members...
I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

Forum Newbie
Hello. I'm new to the GS world and just wanted to introduce myself. My 650 will need some carb and ignition work. Do you guys have preferred or favorite parts sources for the GS?

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum
For bits that are still available OEM, the last few times I've ordered from partshark.com. That is if you're in the Continental U.S. I've not been disappointed. Others will have their favorites. You can look up parts fishes on that site and others to find the Suzuki part number. This is helpful for searching for that part on ebay, etc.

For other aftermarket parts that are no longer available OEM, it really depends on what you're looking for, specifically.

Location matters: If you put this in your profile, no one will have to ask. Knowing yours would be important for further discussion. Don't need to be too specific. ex: Pennsyltucky - would be good enough.
Bike Specifics matter: Create a signature in your profile that has your bike year, model, size, etc. Then no one will have to ask.
A fist name in your signature is also a nice thing, unless you want us to call you wdv02.

I'll second partshark as my go-to for OEM parts. Which suzuki does a commendable job of still offering for many components. What's going on with the 650?

Thank you Rich and gtem for your recommendation. I'll check out partshark.com.

I just got the bike yesterday from the second owner who has only had it for the last three years. It didn't run right when he got it from the original owner so it just sat in his garage. The tank is clean and we put some fuel in it and tried to start it. It ran for a little bit with the choke on. The engine didn't make any unusual noises when it ran. Fuel leaked out of the carb/s with petcock in prime position. Cylinders 1 and 2 were cold. The plugs in those cylinders were wet with fuel while 3 and 4 cylinders were dry but looked a tad rich so I'm thinking to pull out the carbs and clean/rebuild. Probably has stuck float/s and clogged pilot jets, and bad spark plugs and plug wires.

The bike only has 6486 miles and came with a factory service and supplementary manual, owner's manual, maintenance receipts, and a complete tool kit from the first owner.

Welcome Winston. Seems from your list of your previous bikes, this should be probably a simple get'er' goin thing for you. Keep us updated.

Definitely sounds like you're mostly just a thorough carb cleaning away from having a great bike! Aside from those little rubber plugs over the pilot jets (I *think* an 83 would have those but maybe not?) and maybe some float valve o-rings you might get away with not needing to replace any parts at all. I would pop the carbs off and take a look and then order only what's needed. I've had good luck for the most part just cleaning up float valves polishing the seats with some chrome polish on a q-tip.
