Hmmm so I got my new petcock from bike-bandit. I'm tired of playing with rebuilds and stuff, I just want it to work....period.

It looks super clean 8O almost worth the $80, only thing is the bronze fitting that the vacuum hose attatches to is pointing in a different direction than my other two petcocks :? Will this cause me problems or is it an improvement on the original design?

Check it out:

Thanks guys,

Remove it and rotate it 90 degrees.

Then it will line up. Someone probably put it together the wrong way

Aye me matey! Caught that one quick as a shark ye did! :)

The way it ws made the fuel line ( I mean the Vacuum line) would be running into the tank. How bad would that suck?

I dunno guys check this out...here's the diagram of the petcock...it looks like the one I got in the mail.

I also opened it up and the vent hole in the diaphragm lines up to the one in the petcock housing.

No mystery. The smaller fitting (brass) is the vacuum, at the rear of the diaphragm.
Like Duaneage said, just rotate the rear around.

Georgefix on ebay (I've been buying a lot from it seems lately) has petcocks for $46.00
Anybody tried them?

Yours does not look like the diagram. yours has four screws versus two.

Cmon, take a chance and loosen those babies and rotate that cover! You can do it!

I dunno guys... It looks exactly like the diagram to me... Behold:

The picture shows the FUEL LINE side!

Look at the VACUUM line side.

Send it to me, I'll turn it around for you

Yea I'm going to try it the way it is and see how it works...

Nay-sayers what do you predict will happen?, so I know what to look for.

Could be the tip will hit the tank or frame, or otherwise make it impossible to attach the lines. I had a similar issue with a petcock off a different model bike to mine. If thats the case you should find out just as you drop the tank on the frame :)

I don't think that's going to be a problem...We'll find out tommorow when I get a chance to slap it on there...

People seem to think that gas will come out of the vacuum..Funny because I think that was happening on my old one that was assembled the other way with the two connectes pointing at each other... We shall see.

Oh I also just discovered that one of the fuel screws on the set of carbs I was using had no o-ring  That couldn't have been good.

Simon, I had to pull my petcock today to check for a diaphragm leak. Just for kicks, I rotated the vacuum side plate (4 screws) different directions and it works fine whereever it's pointed. Mine actually originally pointed straight backwards, I rotated it straight down to make for a better line up with the vacuum line from the carb. Works fine. Simply open the plate slowly and make sure no springs fly out and get lost during the rearrangement. G'luck :)

I don't know what the confusion is here. :?
The smaller brass fitting is for the vacuum and is at the rear of the diaphragm chamber. The larger fitting at the bottom is the fuel line. Rotate the diaphragm chamber plate 90 degrees and everything will be pointing in the correct direction. Duaneage got it right from the start.

Re: New petcock

Re: New petcock

Remove the four screws on the vac' side cover rotate the cover 90 degrees or until it matches your old unit. Inside the cover there is only the diaphragm that also acts as the gasket. This is "pulled" off it's seat by the vacuum when the motor starts, allowing gas to flow to the carbs'.
I did exactly the same about six months ago.
Gerry

Yea, I would rotate it but they have it stuck on there with some kind of sealant to enhance the sealing powers. I'm afraid the diaphragm will end up ripped or not working if I try turning it.

I will see how it works like this. Afterall it came the same way the diagram said it would so I don't see why it wouldn't.
