New project 1980 gs850

I just picked this up from wookah who had it in the for sale section. I am excited to start a new project after getting my 77 up and running good. I just wanted to post this up to get some thoughts/suggestions on possible direction for this build because I am undecided at the current moment.

I like the basic geometry of it as is... the low bars and butch front tire.. (seems bigger than stock). Considering that all the body panels aside from the tank are missing.. it seems a great candidate for an original paint job. Buy side panels and fenders and a rear cowling and do it all up in something funky..

I have the front fender and rear cowl, but no side covers. And the PO cut the frame rails so idk if I want to fab and weld up stock mounting points for the rear section, although a resto would be cool.

Thanks. I will keep that in mind if I decide to restore it back to stock.

Yeah i have been thinking about that as well.

I started the dis-assembly today and discovered water inside of carb #4. So I decided to look inside of the motor through the intake and the spark plug hole. The top of the valves and the piston look rusted. Only on number 4 though where I found water in the matching carb.

What kind of problems is this going to cause me? What should my course of action be?

I think I will be keeping it for now until I decide if I want to use it or not. But keep tabs here, it might be up for grabs later on if you are not in a rush.

The front tire seems fat because the bike has been lowered. It may be slightly larger than stock, but not by much.

The front tire is a 110-90-19.

Boone is the place that got me interested in riding. My house is 2 miles away from two different Blue Ridge Parkway entrances, and about 20 minutes away from "The Snake" over in Tennessee. So plenty of good riding near me
