    A note to old forum members...
    I receive numerous requests from people who can no longer log in because their accounts were deleted. As mentioned in the forum FAQ, user accounts are deleted if you haven't logged in for the past 6 months. If you can't log in, then create a new forum account. If you don't get an error message, then check your email account for an activation message. If you get a message stating that the email address is already in use, then your account still exists so follow the instructions in the forum FAQ for resetting your password.

    Have you forgotten your password or have a new email address? Then read the forum FAQ for details on how to reset it.

    Any email requests for "can't log in anymore" problems or "lost my password" problems will be deleted. Read the forum FAQ and follow the instructions there - that's what we have one for...

  • Returning Visitors

    If you are a returning visitor who never received your confirmation email, then odds are your email provider is blockinig emails from our server. The only thing that can be done to get around this is you will have to try creating another forum account using an email address from another domain.

    If you are a returning visitor to the forum and can't log in using your old forum name and password but used to be able to then chances are your account is deleted. Purges of the databases are done regularly. You will have to create a new forum account and you should be all set.

well I have gone thru the fault finding chart and it dosent look good when I got to the step of checking the wires from the stator mine only reads 0.2 0.3 the chart calls for 0.5 or more all the way across.between some of the yellow wires at least I hope there the right wires three yellow wires that come out of the main harness and connect to three black wires the three blacks seem to be the ones from the stator this is where I got my readings also I went on the electro sport website and the closest stator I find Is an 85 ef esf 700 is this the same as my bike 85 gs 700 e thanks again the info has been great :eek:

The 85 700E and 700ES are the same.
 
oh yeah, the "F" is just the year designation. basically ignore it.

last weekend I rode around turned my bike on and off several times no problems last time I went to ride I had to jump it before I left and then along the way I killed it and had to get a jump after that I had to keep it reved up or it would die lights were weak etc. when i connect the multi meter to the battery and rev to 2500 rpm it reads 12.50 v dosent seem to be a difference if the bike is running or not reading is the same thanks DJ
 
R&R Regulator/ Retifier suspect!! Mny threads already written, replaced mine this year with 1100 style (slightly bigger unit) check out my old threads and various others on the same subject.
 
More than likely the R/R than the stator.

Before you go condeming parts you should take the time and cleanup and or replace all contacts in the circuit from the stator, to the R/R to the fuse block and to the battery.You will not be getting accurate readings otherwise and will end up going around in circles.

When I first got my 750 it wasn't charging at all. The guys mentioned running a seperate ground line from the R/R (black/white lead out of the R/r). directly to the battery negative. This fixed it for me....for awhile.
This year charging went a bit haywire and I thought my R/r had packed in but when I did the tests it too looked like my stator was crap.

When I replaced all the contacts from the stator and cleaned up those on the R/R I got back to good charging and its fine now.

Clean things up and test again. don't go ordering parts unless you can prove for certain they are goofy.

If you need a stator check out thr RM stators you can find on Ebay. Usually only a little over $100 US.
 
Just a question on the lead, thing. It was also recommended to me to to it as you said - separate lead to battery. My question is, if I can get zero resistance from the negative battery term to the connector I should conclude that connection is all good, right?
